the other day i went for a strap through the hills behind the gold coast, was all good, just as i was coming back into civilisation i came to a very mild bump in the road, front went over fine, then BANG!!!

it sounded like something had broken, but the car was still driving fine, just seemed a bit bumpier than usual.

so i pull over to see what i can see. i walk around to the passenger side to find the rear tyre up in the arch, lookd slammed! but did indicate a problem..

heres a pic of my konis, guess which one isnt quite wright...

the cir-clip that hold the spring seat in place has cut its way through the shock & come to rest on the break line bracket, which is the only thing stopping the whole spring assembly falling onto my break line/caliper etc!

heres a pic of the damage to the body of the shock

and a pic of where the sping seat ended up.

iv put the shocks which came with the car back in, kyb sr special shocks which accually sit the rear lower by a good inch & are much stiffer than the konis,

i'll be taking the konis back to get a replacement pair, cos its a definate design fault that the cir-clip can cut through the housing like that

the dodgy zip tie that was holding it on came clear off & the line was just dangelling there, if it was bolted on like it should be it would have been severed for sure!

& qld transport say zip tied break lines are danderous!

If you have any trouble replacing them, try getting the local council to pay for the damage....

ultimately its their road, their bump, their fault....... :D

Thats why when you buy suspension, pay a little more and get TEINS or something Jap.
Then you wont have this problem 8)

Or KYB or GAB...

I thought GAB is KYB? If you r going to go with hotbits, make sure you get the damper adj ones.

But yeah, you cant go past a good set of KYB's.

yeah if i cant get any joy from koni ( or kingsprings whom i purchased the shocks from) i will be taking it up with the local council, as it WAS their bump which compromised the safety of my vehical ;)

the kyb's iv got back into the rear are a better shock than the konis handeling wise. stiffer ride tho.

what shocks can bring the front down the lowest? not obseenly low, im talking say 1cm above the tyre... nothing over the tyre, its not doable safely with these cars... u start causing problems when you go to low

hotbits =)

coil overs mate

Ive got hotbits, they're pretty good, but i'd certainly suggest getting the damper adj ones.

You only really need height adj ones in the front, IMO normal lowered springs will get your rear as low as you want it.

I had my Hotbits wound right down, as per THIS pic, certainly was very dangerous, when I had my 15's on for racing, the car would bottom out on a big bump, which is almost suicide if your going fast. With the 18's on, it wasnt so bad, and looks farken cool, it still had another inch and a bit left to go down too

i was under the impression the hotbits wouldint go low....
its a little hard to tell from that pic but how much guard to tyre gar was there ? on 15's, mines got maybe an inch & half atm, & id like it around half an inch over the tyre,

the rear of mine is more that low enough... & stiff enough!
