I did a leakdown test on my 4G93T this week and I think the results mean it's rebuild time.

Cylinder 1,3,4 have about 15>25% leakage. But Cylinder 2 has 40% leakage according to a cheap leakdown tester. The tester says 0>40% = high and 40>60 = moderate.

The leakage shouldn't be more then 10->15% right? Ofcourse I've put the cylinders on TDC. Also on the second cylinder you could hear a lot of more leakage going through also the Air Compressor had a harder time keeping up the pressure.

I think the air is going passed the piston rings, but I still have to closely inspect where it's coming from. (be it intake valves, exhaust valves, water or crank case)

How much is considered a healthy leakage?

The car runs fine on boost, but I've had a problem with what seems like 1 cylinder wasn't firing along. But that problem went away just like it came.

Good on you for doing the test. you need to redo it on the dead cylinder to see if it is leaking into crankcase or past valves.
just listen at exhaust, intake and oil filler.
You cold also do a dry and wet compression test. the comparison test will show how bad overall the engine is and help you decide if it you can patch one cylinder or if it needs a set.

Quite possibly it needs only a relap on the valves and maybe one valve replaced.
Do the dry then wet compression test.

I still wasn't completely at ease with a score of around 20% leakdown. So I did some more testing yesterday evening.

I took the leakdown tester and tested my 2012 lancer 1.6 engine with only 30k. It had a leakdown of 20 as well. (engine warmed up). Tried on my 4G93T engine with a warm engine and had a leak of 15%.

So that would mean my 4G93T has less leak than a brand new car

Also did a compression test on my 4G93T, and it had exactly 160PSI on each cylinder.

Does that seem about right? I think it's safe to say the leakdown tester is not really precisie in it's reading since it's cheap and not calibrated.
