Old post, thought id dredge it up from the depths and rerun it.

Im on the hunt for a new daily driver. It needs to have
a) space
b) performance (relatively speaking - not a weapon)
c) some towing ability (for a small boat)
d) not cost kidneys to run and maintain

i can't decide!

which one would you choose and why?

Legnum VR4

Caldina GT4

I am having the same dilema man, but i was to tow the race car.

for a boat(weight of said boat would be important to find out) they will all be okish on a boat ramp being awd,rvr propably best because of the ground clearance.
depending on the weight the strength of the chassis would have to be considered.
legnum will have the most torque out of them so should pull the best with a load.
caldina would have to have a custom tow bar made from scratch i would think(infact maybe all of them would but you do see legnums and sometimes rvrs with tow bars already).

too many decisions.

If it was for looks I love the late model caldinas, and a very close second is the legnum, not a massive fan of rvrs tbh.

legnum and caldinas have 4 working doors which is also a bonus over the rvr.

food for thought

Legnum = Space, minimal bolt ons, great bang for buck
RVR = Loads of bolt ons, top heavy, not so great look
Caldina = Power to weight, minimal bolt ons, not so good AWD system

Pretty tough... Evo 9 is the perfect options, all of the others are like 70% of the criteria, but nowhere near ct9w territory..

true on all those accounts.

RVR also wins in the servicing and maintenance department.

fucking australia. CT9W is what we need here :fuuuuu:

Very easy to convert one of these baby's GH-CS5W into a CT9W but cant import these either same issue as the CT9W's

This is what the CT9W use's as a base The Cedia AWD Wagon and 95% of the Evo Gear bolts straight up also:fuuuuu: There is one of these registered in Sydney But owner Japanese woman wouldn't sell double :fuuuuu::fuuuuu:

Legnum would be my choice to Keep it in The Tri Diamonds Family

going to test drive a caldina this weekend...

will have to find a manual leggy to test at some stage also.

I think I like the Caldina the best, but having said that - parts availability will be an absolute bitch, and therefore probably servicing as well. They run the 3SGTE though so thats a plus i guess. The towbar issue is kind of important as well ...

Mitsubishi 380.
Yes I know its FWD but they are a great car. For $10-12k you can pick up a 3-4 yr old car, cheap to run and insure, safe, comfortable and less likely for you to spend $$ on.

I vote the Caldina. Legnums suck, the 6A13TT is a shit engine and they really are big hefty tanks.

The most important thing you have to know about an RVR is that my Mum has had two. I don't care how much 4G63T is in them, they're a mini people mover and that is fail.

The 3SGTE is a good engine, sure parts are harder to come by, but how hard you gonna mod it really? Exhaust, suspension, bit of boost? Easy!

almost brought one before deciding on the RVR, great cars, will run for 400,000kms easy, not much goes wrong on them (apart from the airbags) super mega luxo fairly eco for what they are.
