Yeah, thats my brothers.

There are a few other relevant threads. One about the auto database, as there are a few variants (one way clutch, strengthened wave spring etc). And another about bypassing the original radiator cooler (bottom of standard radiator) and running an aftermarket cooler with thermostat bypass/recirculating valve.

We have decided to do just this as the radiator takes too long to warm up (to the shops and back and its still cold). It therefore prolongs the transission fluid from reaching the operating temp. The fluid will now leave the gearbox, pass through the thermostat/bypass and either to the aftermaket cooler or return to the gearbox to continue warming up. An oil cooler is a necessity for ATF on any car as life is drastically reduced as it exceeds its operating temperature.

We have pulled one down and come to the conclusion that although they are a bit tricky and fickle that with a some simple care can be looked after (really no more than any other auto box deserves). These gearboxes are bloody heavy (around 120+kg)

How about a Toyota Crown Estate>?

1JZ engine :p

I've driven a few Legnums and Caldina ST215Ws ... Would definitely choose the Caldina. The manuals are great fun (not in the ST246W model shown in OP though). It's more fun and quicker overall than the Legnum. You can't do much with a Legnum to get better performance either due to lack of space. The Legnum also has filthy fuel consumption. Sorry to bag a Mitsi on a Mitsi forum  I was set on a Legnum until I heard about the fuel consumption from a few owners, then I drove a Caldina. Has a nice boy racer feel around the twisties and it's lighter and more economical. If you choose a Legnum, avoid the autos since they are not reliable.

You could also consider a Volvo V40 T4 ~1998 vintage (145kw or so). They go decently and if you do some reading you'll find that there are quite a few bolt on mods that can be done to them with minimal expense :) They're only FWD though.
I dont know about you guys that dont live with a car but Dan you know that my missues has had the leggie for over 2 years now. I read everything about the doom and gloom of the auto's and the other crap but at the end of the day I can only relay what has happened to us.
Nothing! apart from normal servicing of oil I haven't even put in a cooler for the auto. It all depends on how you want to drive it. If your want to thrash it always then follow the Ozvr4 forums to work out the issues but we drive ours every day and every day since we brought it. I throw my mtb bike in the back with the seats down nicole and I have even used the back to sleep in over night, even had a load of wood in it.
Fuel: tune the car properly and you will be OK I once got from Gundagai to Melbourne fully ladened with three kids in the back and still had fuel in the tank. (I think you know how I drive).
My only concern is towing I wouldn't tow with it unless it is just a 6x4.
Shop around you will pick a winner, you know my specs suade recaros, ralliart adjustables (factory)handles great for a daily, raliart exhaust (does the job) and nothing else.
There are a lot of guys on Ozvr4 that have pulled lots more power outta them but it is a wagon and a daily.
I cant say enough it has been reliable and has kept us well and safe.
GL with your choice for me you dont see many Caldina's like your pic most look shit! lol! stagea's suck cause they are nissarses. I would buy a Volvo before a Stagea lol!

Well I finally got my manual Leggie on Thursday and took it for a decent drive today. I hadn't driven a manual before importing mine so here's my impressions:

PRO's:
- Bucket loads of torque down low!
- Gearing similar to my E39A RS gearing, which helps the above.
- Build quality rivaling my Honda Accord Euro
- And surprisingly much better fuel economy than everyone states.

CONS:
- My pup threw up.

Take some advice from your pic there Dan and get yourself a Legnum!
