Im finding it hard to convince myself why i should keep the gsr, im so tempted to just sell it and buy an evo 6, Ive spend so much time and effort in this car and still havent got it on the road after about 6 months, im sure other people have been let down, disappointed or frustrated with these early gsr/evos can someone please tell me why its worth owning one??

I don't run a GSR, but I understand the frustrations of a project car. My RVR been going for 11 months for the body, but I've had the 4g63 engine for 3 years and it's still in pieces.

I have been driving a 1992 ford laser that I bought for $400 for 3 years, a very dark time in my car ownership story. It has all the performance and appeal of a public toilet seat with a sprinkling of pubes and enough skid marks to lead

the casual observer to think there was some sort of anal burnout event at some stage.

I will appreciate my finished build all that much more for having paid out tons of money, waiting weeks to months for machining to be finished, researching parts that might fit because the OEM either doesn't exist anymore or doesn't

suit the build. It will be soooo worth it to pull a great 1/4 time, a car that drives great and looks good knowing you've done the work yourself.

Hang in there mate, there aren't that many good GSRs out there ;)

Jamo just finished an engine build so he might know what it's like owning a GSR more than me.

Anyone can buy a evo6. But not all can build a gsr.

I hate building a car when I cant drive it, I like to take it off the road and do a bit, then drive it for a bit. Do a bit more.
Takes longer but you not pressured to be at it always

romeo don't give up on it you'll only resent the car/yourself more. and then find yourself in possibly a similar position with the 6 once you inevitably start modding it

Bud, keep at it !!!

When the day comes that you get to drive it the first time, all the head f#*k will be forgotten and you'll be grinning from ear to ear !!

I do feal your pain though, I've been at mine for around 2yrs now and I'm at the point where I only have a few little things to go before it can go off for paint. The headaches (and constant emptying of the wallet) trying to find all genuine e3 parts has taken its toll but I now see the light at the end of the tunnel and I can't wait....

Agreed!! Keep at it man!! I've had my cars for 9 years its been in the shed for 6 years I've driven it 10 METRES in that time im determined to finish it but a mortgage, wife, paintball, renovations and various other shit has slowed the process hugely!!! But keep at it man you will get there. Any help needed just ask bud :)

I dont really have much to do ive pretty much got everything just gotta put it back together and spray a few panels, I know it will be worth it in the end but sometimes i wish i had a newer car most of my friends and family have relatively new cars and im stuck with a lancer that keeps stuffing up and another one yet to be driven. im sure once i get the gsr going and sell the other lancer things will be better

You feel frustrated coz you don't have it running after 6 months??

Don't talk to us!!! I had mine off for 3 years, Robs was 9 years

But we stuck to it, we are winners!! don't give up buddy

Have a read of my car build thread... and I mean all of it. Its been an epic journey about many highs and lows, setbacks and life getting in the way. But the will to keep going and finishing what you started is more than just about the money. You will read why...
Ive seen many guys just give up over the years and regret it later. Dont fool yourself, whether its a GSR or EVO6 there is no such thing as a 'quick-fix' project. Guys who feel that way usually have a lot of money to burn and change cars regularly, never satisfied with what they have.
If its going to be your daily ride then we can all relate to having something more suitable... it makes common sense to get something you WONT be spending much money on modifying.

I know 6months isnt really a long time for a car build, but i was just planing to put the car back to pretty much stock so i figured it wouldn't take that long, i know once i start doing doing all the work ive got planed it will take a while and it wont bother me so much.

geez man stop goin out drinking everynight, call in a fav from the boys and get some hours logged on it lol :p, just playing bout the pub...sometimes thats a much needed time away, we all here backing you

when you get in it and drive around again you will smile ear to ear, i wanna keep doing things to the 7 but i dont want it off the road and lately i drive it once a week if that and i look at it all day in my workshop, so your a bigger man then me being able to keep at it

Yeah in this day and age of green cars and enviro warriors, performance car manufacturing has been considerably reduced. Our cars derive from the 4-banger mass turbo era between 88-96 and there will never be another time quite like it. This era of cars usually weigh less and have less restrictions on emissions and pollution controls which only helps with the modifications you can get away with. There's also a lot of R&D and aftermarket parts available which is plenty to hand it to the late model cars of today. We can open our bonnets and know what we're working on. With newer cars you open the bonnet and say WTF as the motor is hidden under 50 million other parts bolted onto it.

We have the luxury to understand and still work on our cars personally because the information is easily available to us. With newer cars you'll probably be paying the car off for years with interest, pay higher insurance costs and for servicing and repairs. When things go wrong they usually leave you sitting on the side of the road and a large repair bill by the mechanic. When you have a bingle, the newer cars cost so much that they could be written off with only front bar and headlight damage. Personally I think we are getting ripped off with the price of many new cars and their recommended servicing requirements. When you add it all up, they can actually be just as expensive and costly to own in the long run and their mechanical parts don't seem to stand the test of time like the cars of yesteryear.

If you want a nice easy daily driver that's easy on the pocket by all means buy something reliable and don't spend any money on modifying it. Because as soon as you start modifying another car from scratch, you get a hole in your wallet quick smart as the cycle continues. A lot of guys will buy a car, mod it, spend big $$, then sell it. Then they go out and buy another car, mod it, spend big $$ and sell it. That's where the money goes. I reckon if you build something you want to keep up front, it works out much better. It makes it easier if you have another daily driver you dont touch!! lol

thats for the wise words guys, in a moment of weakness i just wanted to take the easy option, but i know i would regret it, Once i get the gsr on the road my money will go towards getting a nice comfortable daily driver and once i have that the gsr gets pulled off the road and real work begins!! I do plan on keeping the car for a long time and to be honest most of the new cars i like are to pricey for what they are ie 86/brz or way out of my price range like m3 or f type jaguar :(

Stick with it romeo.
I've had a bunch of cars including an E7 and I prefer E39A Galant VR4 over them all.
You will regret selling. I do. :(

Stick with it, I know it sometimes is frustrating, The VR4 powered MGB I have took me 2 months to fit the 4G63 motor in it but12months to get painted. I drove the car for10yr standard with crap paint, then 10yrs with crap paint and a turbo4G63 till I decided to paint it. But now I driven it everyday for about 10 months and love it. Even the Dirty old ZR4 Eterna I love, because it is something different and something I have worked on all by myself. Don't want to knock any other cars but I find Skylines are as common as Commodores on the road so now I don't think they are special. but how many GSR are around compared to EVO's, probably a lot less
