Ok,
removing the loom on my old VR4 due to the fact it was missing the idle stop wire. and fitting a single board while I'm there.

Go to fit replacement loom that came off Jap VR4 half cut. All going sweet till I hit the Coil Pack plug and the Transistor Plug.

Coil Pack = 4 pin (purple square)
New loom = 3 pin (grey triangle)

Transistor = 5 pin (flat)
New loom = 6 pin (flat)

CAS, AFM and all other plugs are fine, just these 2 are different.

This car has to be back on the road ASAP, so I would like to know firstly, what loom people think my 'new' loom is and second obviously, what wires need to be re-arranged where. I'm happy to transer some money over accounts to get the right answer first time. I've got 3 jobs on the go, and can't afford to be working for free on the missus car.

Thanks in anticipation!

Jon

from memory.. (you can find the different schematics in the galant workshop manual, it applies to both VR4 and GGSR DOHC 2lt)

HG has the 4 wire coil pack, 4th wire (i think it was white) is the RPM signal, 5 pin transistor

HH has 3 wire, 6 pin transistor, same style transistor pack but 6th pin is RPM signal

Ah, OK, so I simply swap and lenghten the white wire from the Coil pack and insert into the 5 pin transistor plug.

I'll give it a go, thanks Mr. Jay.

The vr4 transistor is the 7 pin. It has extra wires as it also works as a tacho interface.
If you are using a 5 pin transistor like the sonata and possibly gsr you will need to run the separate tacho interface.

I would dare say there are difference between facelift and PF, along with single and dual boards, so it comes down to years and variant codes.

everything is still plug and play for all variants, but some of the wiring has been simplified depending on the model...

remember also your CAS plug might also be different

but if your planning to re wire your set up, this might make it easier.. (only a guide, but wiring color code is from a Microtech)

Ok, went a lil different today. I also found that the TPS was different. So in order for me to change the TPS I had to change the throttle body, I also had to change the rail.

So I ended up using the loom, coil packs, transistor, TPS and Single board all from the same car. It starts and runs better than ever...except no Tacho! The signal that dash receives must be different than what the new stuff is putting out...

it shouldnt be that diff but..

um, hunt down the RPM signal wire inside the car, and use the Tach interface from the older 4 wire coils to make your Tacho work... its only 3 wires white red and yello i tink...
