hey guys.
i am looking at LSD at the moment. i find it very hard to find mechanical LSD's but can find a few viscous type.
ive been told the viscous type uses clutches.
can these be rebuilt? i know mechanical ones are ment to be better and all but im sure a viscous one will be better than an open diff.

can anyone help? any info will be good.

Hey bro, I can get you a Cusco TYPRE RS mechanical LSD for around $1400. Not sure if you'd need a 3.909 for those or not, considering its for an evo 'box.

Next would be a kaaz lsd 'a la bazeng'

or you can get those ralliart LSD's if you search C73a etc on yahoo auctions japan....

hey dre,
sadly this one would be for my FWD hatch. to go into the km210. which seems to use the same diff and evo and gsr and all anyway.

when i say cheaper i mean second hand around the 400 to 600 mark.
i am more just researching them at the moment, i cant afford one but i do know a guy here that wants to do a swap for some stuff i got.

the ones i have been looking at are out of evo's or gsr's and are second hand viscous units, thats why i was asking about rebuilding, or if they ever need rebuilding.
cheers simon.

An evo front viscous lsd has been good for me in a fwd. They are roughly
equivlent to 5lb pre load. You don't need to service them. They are sealed
in their own jell & you don't need to run special lsd gear oil if you decide
to go viscous lsd. You need to get the driver's axle if you go that way tho.
Get the crown wheel with the lsd & if you get them separate, ask for the
8 bolts also. The crown wheel bolts are about 6mm longer than stock.

well it seems i will be getting the viscous unit from an evo 2. i have been given an offer i cant refuse and its a bargin so im gonna get it.

rockabilly:
what do you mean by get the drivers axle? do you mean the drivers side cv shalf? im not sure if the guy will have the gearing on it as he has replaced it with a full after market mechanical unit. ill find out i guess,
if not, where do you get bolts like that from?

i also need some bolts for a flywheel, as i have changed from a auto to a manual the bolts need to be much longer than the ones through the flex plate.
cheers simon.

He won't need the long bolts for his mechanical lsd. Tell him you'll swap
these (your) crown wheel bolts for his bolts while you hand him the cash.
In other words, you better start unbolting your crown wheel now !

well to late, he has had his mechanical put in already, will email him and find out what he has left over.

cheers for all the advice!!

simon.

Simon the fella selling the viscous lsd to you was using it ?
He doesn't need the extra 18mm longer driver's axle with a clutch lsd.
A hollow & a clutch lsd both use the std length driver's axle.
Swap driver's side axles with him & you will both have what you's need.
Pics here show the length difference. If you use a std length axle, you
will only have 15mm of spline inside the viscous centre & the clip won't
reach the slot it needs to expand into. And in his case, the clip will go
past his slot. Copy this text & show him what I'm saying about axles.

Simon I said viscous lsd is ok, but you need the hardware to go with it ok.

ok kool, i will email the dude and find out what happened with all this tuff when it went in. will let you know.
cheers simon.
