Hi guys. I have seen on eBay from the states adapters for the maf for dsm to change from 1g to 2g maf. Could I use this on my Aus spec vr4 motor so I can run an 055 or similar maf. Any advice would be appreciated. I really don't want to have to change the ecu as I have a non socketable vr4 ecu.

Do you mean the MAF translator to run the LS1 meter?

As seen on Austraion:

I did see that but no this was basically just a short loom with the two different plugs so an adapter harness basically. Stated for using the 609 mitsubishi maf with the 1g dsm which as I understand is similar to Aus spec vr4. Any ideas if this would work and what a 609 would come our of? Magna??

Afaik you need to compensate when changing the maf from 1g to 2g style. So that means a chip

That sux arse big time as I really didn't want to have to buy a new ecu to do this. If I use an Evo 1-3 ecu can I retain the vr4 loom and all other sensors and buy an Evo maf and this adapter and just simply plug the whole lot in along with the Evo 510cc injectors???

Not sure how much an Evo 1-3 ecu would be, but I assume they wouldn't be that cheap...also, you dont need that plug, you can simply just rewire the original with a magna airflow meter (055 MAF) and the magna plug, it just requires switching a few wires. Check http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html for details.
Also, I think there's a bit more to it than just swapping the ecu so may not be worth the hassle (might as well go later model evo ecu if you're doing that). Someone on here will know for sure though.

I've found the easiest way to do it is with the ECMLink. Have a look at their site: http://www.ecmtuning.com/ and try find a chippable vr4 ecu. It'll most likely be much less hassle in the end, especially if you want to mod and tune the car...

You will need to chip your ecu or run an evo ecu.

Thanks baz. So does the Evo ecu just a case of plug in. And change injectors and maf. Or are there other sensors that will need replacing as I'm really only interested in a plug and play type swap. Apparently according to the numbers on the ecu I have it's a non EPROM ecu. How much would I be looking at to buy a suitable vr4 ecu and get meek to chip it for the 510's and the 055 maf??

The Evo ecu is a plug and play affair into your GSR. Meek charge around $400, for the work to the ecu, the chip and the chip written to suit whatever mods you have at the time, and postage back to you, for that price.. If you change anything down the line its cheap as to get it re written again.
As for the price of an Evo ecu...you just have to hunt around to find one at the right price.

Its a vr4 not a gsr.

If you are going to convert ecu. Put in a evo 8 ecu.
Find out who can tune it near you tho

I it's a lancer gsr with vr4 4g63t motor. has the vr4 ecu and harness in it. Chipping the vr4 ecu sounds like a dumb idea considering the cost for such an old ecu. I wouldn't want to chip the one I have either as it would be nice to put away all the stock parts for a rainy day. So it's either a vr4 loom or a gsr loom that's been patched well to suit all the vr4 sensors etc. definitely has vr4 evu. so will the Evo 1-3 plug in and what maf and injectors will it run. Using my loom. I can get an adapter cable as I won't cut the one up I have! Can people stop telling me what I should do and can someone please just answer the question. I don't really care to tune it later down the track on this particular car. Sure it would be great to run an Evo 8 ecu for sure but I don't want to have to add the extra sensors and bits to acomodate for the obd2 compliance of the later ecu.so can I PLUG IN Evo 1-3 ECU, 510cc injectors and suitable maf and have car running correctly????????????????

Yes if you get an Evo Ecu and 510s and 609 as Ive already said..its plug and play.
And the car will run fine with the three things mentioned above without chipping etc.

Does your AFM plug look like the plug on this AFM...
And you might be interested in the AFM this bloke is selling also!!

Legend! Tps I've just changed is 3 pin but has the throttle closed switch. Am I correct in assuming the switch is the same wire incorporated into the Evo 4 pin tps etc? Also what sort of difference do you think I would notice when driving it?

If not...the same guy is selling the AFM adaptor your looking for too
