Heres the deal,or rather should i say dilema.

Rims
17x8 front
17x9 rear
offset 45

1.They are a different size for starters so if i dont get the tyres the same rolling radius front to back then the diff will have a moose!..so that leaves me with a 225/40/17 tyre, only option, its gonna be a major stretch especially on the rear, dont even know if its possible for a 225 on a 9 inch rim.......but any way..it would look tough.. 8)

2. Because the rear is so wide with a 45 offset, the backspace is high, when bolted up it sits flush on the control arm..now...Should I Grind it a couple mm?
Ive heard of it being done before..its mentioned in that tyre fitment chart thingo floating around on the site.Or i could add a 5mm spacer plate, but the tyre sits a feww mm outside the guard at stock height anyway.
So it looks like a bullshit track car,i dunno whether to bother...as i lower the back it will camber in and maybe clear the guard.

Anyone with experience with this stuff know wat i should do?
I think my major drama is the 9 inch wide rim with a225mm tyre...seems like a major stretc

I might jus sell em..if it aint worth it,i know baz would stik em on jus cos theyre fat!!!

Thanks

Why would you put 225s on a 8 in rim even?

A VR4 isn't 'mad tyte dorifto' or ricerific enough to put cheap skinny tyres on everything

You need at least 255s

Because the front has 215 on it now and looks fine
And i would like to keep the guard bendage to a minimum,as the offset plus width=a wheel that sits outside the guard...

If you put 255's on a vr4, I want to put a countdown on how long your axles last.

Ditch the rims and get 4 rims that are the same width. You don't need the wind up in the diffs etc. You're making your centre diff work overtime to release excess load.

Then i'd be looking at 225's max.

cheers for that advice,good point
R saying these cars are inherently weak in this area?
gtr's get away with it.

3-bolt axles are one of the weakest parts on these cars, especially when you have more power than stock and/or bigger rims than stock with sticky tyres.

I've done 2 right rears in a year.

I'd forget about anything over 225 unless your car is at stock height, which just means it'll lean over on corners, like a MILF on heat. Its just going to rub and scrub hard if your car is even remotely lowered.

We were going around some pretty tight corners at high speed on sunday, and the 215's on my 7.5"wide 18's seemed to meet the front right guard on a few occasions, and its not overly lowered at the front.

why do you want such big wheels/tyres anyway?

u cant have different sizes of tyres / wheels...

they all need to be exactly the same..

otherwise your gonna kill the diff

its a different system to the gtr

good luck tryin 2 get insurance with different width wheels as well... i have 17x7 with 205x40x17s on, little bit skinny but they never hit my guards either....

you can run different widths if you can match the rolling radious. it can be done in some combinations.

but as has been said already, just get 4 the same & save urself the hassel,

which jap63 has done now.
