Hey all!!! Anyone know wat most psi that can be run through stock 4g63 and that can be safe??? Cheers
 
Define what you think is safe ?

Safe to me is is not pinging (= you can feel the knock counts retarding the timing) over boosting will cause ecu to read knock counts and retard the timing to protect the engine.

Stock is around 15psi ish from memory.

One of the quickest ways to ruin a engine is playing with boost levels and not having the ability to read the engine's symptoms of not liking it.. basically it isn't learnt over night.

Back on topic- it all depends on what supporting mods you have on your car for you to allow to raise the boost safely.....

When you get those sorted, its a good tune the car for maximum power and back it off 15% or there abouts....

It all depends on what setup you are running really

dont people run upto 20 psi and above on stock 6 bolt bottom ends? with decent head gasket and hed studs of corse
 
Yeah i've had 2 cars run 20+ psi all day happily with stock headgaskets and head studs etc.

They both made over 200kw atw too, one trapping 115mph, and the other 111mph
 
Guys - what size exhausts and what ECUs were you running? What are the limits of the standard AF meter?

1st setup: 3" all the way Autronic SM2 with no AFM, 202kw atw, 12.5@109MPH (best 12.03 and 115MPH)

2nd setup: 3" all the way from ported E3 dump, chipped eprom ECU (VR4) and 2G (magna) AFM. 216kw atw, 13.7@111mph (FWD)



I'd say you'd have to be making well over 400HP atw for a 2G AFM to start being a restriction

the motor was rebuilt but all standard gear, but a easy 25psi on a 6 bolt no probs

I was running a walbro, sard reg, emanage piggy back, no afm

I havnt boosted my 7 bolt yet but I might go to 15psi only
 
OK, what AFR were you getting at max power? Mine's doing 10.2....

Also - I've highflowed my Big16g with a GT Pumps 20G comp wheel, but kept the standard turbine housing.. Is it worth upgrading that to Mark's enlarged housing?

10.2 is TOO rich on full boost.

You will be robbing power.

Try to get a nice setup between 11.3-11.8 to be nice and safe for good power.
 
Yea well its running 8 psi at moment and i have on the way dual stage boost controller so i was thinking 14 psi on second stage sould be fine to run.
