Hey all, just wondering if anyone in Melbourne or Geelong has a car trailer they would be willing to rent to a fellow enthusiast?

In light of my recent bingle, and the fact that it's looking like my car is going to get written off I've taken a punt and bought this

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1990-Mitsubishi-Galant-VR4-/151720889117?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=WZ37ThTIc6Wvd7InwY4W0g%252FCaqM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I plan to make I good VR4 out of two, but need to get this one to Sydney. Any help or suggestions apreciated.

How will you return the trailer? Might well hire from Sydney then drive to Vic and back.

You going to strip?

I doubt anybody will loan you a trailer for an interstate trip with no idea on how it's going to be returned. Why not try a commercial transporting place or just hire one that you can leave in Sydney?

Try these peoples,
move yourself trailer hire -1300 882 187
Pretty sure you can do 1 way trips but call them an see,
Just last week I hired 1 for 4 hours- $80 with 50 deposit

I'd just have to drive the trailer back. I know it's asking a lot of a complete stranger. I figured a pic of my license and car would offer some sense of security.

The plan is to take the best bits from the two cars, keep any other bits I want to hoard and sell whats left. When I'm done my old VR4 will be a bare shell.

I've actually enquired with move yourself and was told they don't do one way for car trailers.

At the moment it's looking line a professional transport copmpany is my best bet. I'm looking at $1300.

Who is writing your car off? Your insurance company?

I hate to say it, but you should have been a little more patient and waited for something local to pop up- $1300 on top of $2500 could get you something a lot better than that P.O.S. I wouldn't have even paid $1000 for it.

Or $3800 would have fixed a light front ender on your car.
mine was way worse needed a sill replaced and racking. Was less than $3800 (before i went and painted it)

I never would volunteer that i was planning interstate trip with hire trailer. Just hire it for the 3 days. And check your wheel bearings on the trailer. Every hour, stop and touch the hubs to make sure they not getting hot

Hire trailers usually state that you only drive at 80kph only. Hard when you are on an open freeway.

What did you need from the car? Potentially somebody may share costs and strip for you? And send what you need

Another company to try is trik trailers in bayswater, and I'm fairly sure you can hire car trailers one way, but I don't know if there convenient for you location wise

edit: http://www.triktrailers.com.au/index.htm

for 1300 ya might as well put in another 500 and buy a trailer!

I would never trust a hire trailer personally.
+2 only in emergencies id hire one... i'm yet to hire one that actually drives straight and true... even without a load (as we all know its much worse with a load on it)

Bloody lala's, lol
Its the old case of money vs time, both ways you'll get there its just what can ya spare
as jack said keep a eye on the bearings an just take ya time, plus that trik trailers make their own too so id imagine if ya hired it one way that far, then for their own sake and reputation they would check its in good condition

or... ya other option is get it towed to a workshop an get someone off here to oversee the build, whether ya get it driving so ya can get it home or go a bit furthers up to you,

I'm going to have to put it on a truck. The car I have access to won't do a 2000kg tow.

Another thought was to take my engine down there, intstall it, and drive home. But I've played with enought cars to know there is always stuff you didn't count on to screw you over. It's tempting but.....
