Hey Guys, i got a 1995 GSR Lancer and it has the current problems.
i've lost my job and don't know what to do.

- Needs a engine re-co which will cost a few bones.
- Swap for a 4g63 and what is needed.
- or Sell it.

Which do you think will be the smarter option ?
should i recondition the engine or would dropping a 4g63 a cheaper option or just sell it.

cheers guys

Depends on what is Wrong with the motor to start with. U might make more money parting it out. But then u would have no car :p

Fitting a 4G63 is NOT a cheap option by any standards.

I bought a 4g63t and all of the conversion parts about a year ago, with the intention of doing the GSR > 4g63t conversion myself.

In my experience by the time I'd bought the motor and all of the parts needed to carry out the conversion, i.e. loom, injectors, alternator, coilpacks, E1/2/3/VR4 passenger side driveshaft, ECU, meek engine mount, etc, I'd spent over $3k. That's not even including new belts, filters, leads, spark plugs, etc, etc.

Would have thought it would work out cheaper to track down a second hand running 4G93T and swap that out with your old engine. You should be able to get a second hand 93t for 600 bucks or so I would have thought.

Although most GSR owners think performing the 4G63T conversion gives them the right to jack up the asking price for their 200,000 Kilometer GSR by about $5,000.

At least you might get back what you spent on the 4G63T conversion if you did that!!!

Yeah, i'm trying to source a 93T but its getting a bit hard, i got a spare one but that was no good either.
i don't think ill be parting out aswell

4g63t doesnt seem so good any more,

super cheap has all the part you need to overhaul the engine yourself for under 1k 1800 if you want pistons as well

a reconditioned 4g93t will set you back about $2500. they are usually a bit more than a stock reconditioned 4g63t because they are now getting harder and harder to find. rebuilding one yourself would be the way to go if you have the know how and only need a few basic parts. Ask 3zercrowd. his motor cost $200 bucks in gaskets and seals. and his motor is running 12.3's. cost would be easier to work out if we new what is wrong with your motor. a simple blown head gasket may only cost $300 if you can do the work yourself.

well according to my mech, the 3rd cylinder is gone due to over boosting, so the rings have shrunk and warped some head valves, i had a spare 4g93 lying around so we used some pieces of that.
but its not always going to be 100% and no guarentee if it would run so the best option is to get a full recondition for around 2k.

Ok so i decieded, that im going to rebuild the engine, but i was quote about 2 k to recondition the engine.

but by recondition that mean like bore out the block and clean it and stuff , wouldnt it be cheaper if i bought all forged internals at the same time and would be slighty similar in price.

the kits go from 1.3k and i was quote about 2k just to re-co the engine, now can't i just get them to install these and not recondition the engine, if anyone gets what i mean.

Its the machining, honing etc, that ends up costing the $$$$...There's no point putting new parts into a fucked motor-it wont last long, and you will be back where you are now! Do the job properly the first time, that way you wont have to do it again!! :D

Yeah, or i can just try and source a second hand engine, but its becoming pretty difficult.

my options are :

pay $2.5k for full reco including labour
pay 1.5k for new parts to be put into a fucked mother and risk the chance
pay $1kish for a second hand motor.
or pay $3-5k for a 4g63 conversion.

lolol i'm still decieding my priorities are pay $1k for a second hand motor with waranty.

still hard to source, if anyone could help me find one, i'll greatly appreciate it.

i'd take option 2 but find another block.

i honed my own cylinders with a cordless drill and what looked like a bottle cleaner with poo dags.

mechining work on the head done by a pro for $345.

skimed the block myself. and currently putting it all back together myself and i know didly about the inside of motors. my knowledge up to now has been what fluids go where.

it's not exactly had and if you want a copy of the complete engine manual i've got it here
