Hey all;

I have a Mitsubishi Chariot running a SOHC 4G63, and I'm wondering what would be involved in converting it to DOHC.
I've tried doing research, and from what I can find the DOHC head should theoretically bolt straight on, but the DOHC head runs coil packs where the SOHC runs a dizzy.
It's 16 valve, and I'm fairly sure it's a 1st gen.

What would be involved in converting to DOHC? Would I want a 1G or 2G head? Do the DOHC heads come with the option of a dizzy, or do I need to convert to coil packs and swap the ECU? How much could I expect it to cost if I do the work myself, and will I need to get anything engineered?

Any help, advice, tips or information would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

I dont know. But....I have a 6bolt sohc that will convert no worries. It hasnt got a boss for a knock sensor tho. Other than that its no worries.

Do you have a 6 or 7 bolt engine? I think its prolly a 7 bolt. So I would put a 7 bolt head on it. Either rvr or evo.
But a 6 bolt will bolt on too. Personally id go for a sonata 6 bolt head as they are plentiful/cheaper and newer than both the evo and the vr4 heads.
In fact, you could get a whole sonata engine and ecu for a couple of hundred bucks and throw it all in...

I think, from the oil pan, that I have an early 7-bolt. Car is from around 1993ish (although if it has a compliance plate with build date, I can't find one) and I think they dropped 6-bolt at the end of '92.
I'm fairly limited in terms of what I can do because of NSW P-plate laws, so a complete engine swap will be out of the question.

Is there any advantage to picking a 6-bolt head over a 7-bolt head? What differences exist between them?
Also, I've come across people mentioning having to plug extra oil drainage holes when swapping certain 4G6 head/block combos, is this something I'd need to worry about?
