On the way back from work the other day i was having a bit of a go and when i was about to change in to 3rd gear up the top of my revs, the engine cut out for like less than half a second and came back on again.
wondering if it was fuel cut or something cause i was a little low on petrol.
but when it happened my head nearly went into the windscreen it was that severe.
was it boost or fuel cut? and how do i stop it from doing it again.
cheers ,

Pretty good chance you experienced the dreaded "boost cut" ... good thing you dont need a new windscreen ! If it was fuel, it wouldnt have been as severe, just a less vigourous slowing. Sounds like its time for a ECM Link chip to get rid of it ( or a simple chip rewrite if thats all you want to achieve).

haha yeah, it was a horrible feeling!

where is the best place to get info for the ecm link chip?
. i might go that way i think
or can i go to an auto electrician and get a re write?

hmmm. im looking at these speedlab chips from NZ, anyone tried these before? im now thinking this is my best option as theyre only 100 bucks

I dare say the average auto elec would have no idea. There are a few of us here that can rewrite a chip. Firstly your ecu needs to be "socketed" to accept the new chip. I can socket and rewrite the chip, but you would need to send me the ECU to me in Adelaide. Do ou have a ASpec, pre or post facelift VR4 ? The pre facelifts generally have the wrong ECU, and you need a single board Eeprom type of ecu. If in doubt , take the ECU out and photograph the case numers ,and inside the box. We will be able to advise from there. Otherwise , Check out ECMLink website. All will be revealed... You still need to socket the ecu to fit the ECMLink chip. If you cant find anyone in Tassie, PM me, and I can help. Cheers Mike

oh cool, that would be really nice of you. I have an aus spec vr4. if it isnt too dark after i finish work tomorrow ill take it out and take some photos and post them up here.. the electric side of cars, i have no idea lol. im used to working on my old lancers with carby's haha.
cheers for the info :D

btw the ecmlink looks pretty hectic. my car is only standard with 2 1/2" aluminum hi flow system ahah

if your only planning on doing a few mild mods ecmlink might be abit much for it. I dont know what else is out there that is cheap/effective. Ive heard a few guys talk about a chip from meek automotive, but i dont know how much it is. Im sure someone will have a good alternative for you.

yeah, i dont reckon i will mod it anymore,. want to keep it standard. still have the original exhaust system :p
hmm ill check it out. thanks for all the info :D

Your ecu will be a single board and able to be socketed being as its an Aspec vr4. Fairly certain they re all single boards. I highly recommend recommend contacting Mike 'blackvr' he can either burn you a chip to suit your setup or organise an ECM link.

Whilst your ECU is out check the capacitors on there as well. Replace them if they are the original ones as they may start leaking and cause damage to your ECU.
