I know that we do not get RVR Sports Gear in US, so I took Eagle Summit Wagon AWD (also sold as Colt Vista and Mitsu Expo LVR) and made my own version ;)

I drove this wagon for 2 years, did some minor mods (EVO8 suspension, EVO3 radiator), but finally my clutch let go and I started the swap project. It took 18 month of on a off work, but I am finally done!

The mods:

Race block with forged pisons/rods
Rebuilt heads w/HKS 272 cams
Magnus Intake
Switzer COP ignition
2G DSM ECU with V3 ECM Link (running SD)
1G IRC race core FMIC with custom plumbing
Summit 5sp tranny with 4 spider center diff and DSM viscous coupling.
DSM ACT 2600 w/street disc and ACT FW

There were a ton of other other mods to make it all work

For now, I am runing 14b turbo and pump gas. Which gave me best et of 12.44 @106.6

But now, I need to improve on EVO8 suspension. I will start with camber plates and go from there. I would love to find an upgraded rear sway bar, but that is a long shot.

I need to take some new photos, especially under the hood, but this should give you an idea:

Bare in mind that this is just a "break-in" turbo for the new engine. The real turbo goes in after about 500-1000 miles.

I have FP Red (that needs a new compressor wheel) and a small 16g sitting my garage.

But I am enjoying this this 14g so much, that I just might keep it for a while. As nice as it was to run 12.4, there was another .4-.5 sec left in this set-up. This was done on "out of the box" speed density DSM Link setting. I haven't even started tuning car! So part of me wants a big turbo, but the other part wants to keep running the 14b.

Thanks, guys! First of all, let me just say how thrilled I am to find a group of car enthusiasts who actually modify and race these unique vehicles! I have looked for years, but somehow, just found your forum!

On the first run, I had 1.64 60” time and second time it was 1.68. Both of these passes were on cold October night, when traction is terrible! But those were full slicks and I was expecting mid to low 1.5’s (that is what typically get on a DSM with these tires and similar conditions). While they look good, those 60’s are comparable to what I get on regular street tires on a well prepped track. So basically, on that night, sticks were making-up for the awful traction :), but not necessarily giving me an advantage that slicks should give.

As a point of reference, when track is well prepped, with DSMs I get low 1.4’s on slicks and mid high 1.5’s on street tires. But… those DSM’s are typically 300-400lbs lighter, have LSD rear ends (my Summit is open :( ), a longer wheel base and make 300-400 more hp ;).

As far as interior is concerned, I am not very familiar with what you have on RVR's :). But I do have a single bench seat in the rear. It is easily removable, when I want to shed 75lbs for racing. However, it does not have head supports, something that worries me when I have my kids in the car. I remember seeing some nice bucket seats in RVR, is that standard? Do they also come out with minimum effort?

I will take a bunch more photos over the weekend.

Man that is quick off the line!

Awesome time for that MPH!

I gotta get myself some slicks!

What slicks are you running?
What size rims?

I'd love to launch like that without breaking anything!!

What does your drivetrain comprise of?

Keep in mind if this was a smaller frontal area DSM, the car would have trapped 2-3mph higher, so it would have been closer to "norm".

These are 16" wheel, 24.5" OD slicks that most of my DSM friends are using. But one particular friend has an EVO1 clone, build on a Mirage, so he used 4 bolt hubs. I borrowed his tires.

But slicks vertually elliminate wheel hop and really improve your driverain's durability.

I am using 95 Summit tranny, with 4 spider gear center diff, DSM viscous coupler (Summit had one that was 30% thinner) and ACT 2600 clutch w/street disc. The rear end is stock and I am a bit concerned with its reliability.

What is the fastest time you guys saw these wagons run? I am trying to figure out when I should expet failures and what specifically breaks?

Finally got a chance to loose some weight on brakes!

Summit started out having 10" rotors and single piston calipers. These are the same as "small DSM brakes", as found all 90-91 1Gs and 93-99 FWD DSMs. Those brakes work OK for light autox and even 150mph drag racing duty.

Since I am not planning exceed these types of racing, I do not really need to upgrade my braking capacity. But I would like to reduce the weight of my Summit and that is one potential area of weight loss opportunity.

Improving on weight these small brakes is not easy! Rotors weigh only 10.5lbs and calipers are 10.8lbs (with dust shields and hardware totals is 23.3bs). But I took on this challenge!

I already had a couple of old TCE/Wilwood brake kits with BSL calipers (only 6lbs each!!!) with matching 11.7 brackets. So all I needed was some lightweight rotors. Wilwood has some really nice 11.7 rotors (8x7” pattern), but they did not my TCE hats (8x7.625). Searching around, I found out old AEM rotor used 8X7 hats! And what is best, since those replacement rotors for AEM brakes are NLA, those can be found for little or no money!

Original AEM rotors are 12.3”x.95” thick and 15.5lbs! Substituting Wilwood rotors (11.7x.81” drilled), the weight is reduced to just 8.8lbs!

Total weight per corner: 15.1lbs That is 8.2lbs weight reduction over the “small brakes”!

So, brakes and suspension are done on the PS! Next, I have to complete DS, which should be easier.

Last item in suspension upgrade are stiffer/shorter rear springs. I am starting out with 7 passenger wagon seats and cutting 1.5 coils from them.

They clear "some" 15" wheels :). I tried friend's 15" TE37 Volks and they would he cleared, if it wasn't for balancing weights.

I pieced them together using an old TCE kit ($200), some new Wilwood rotors ($60/pair) and free AEM hats (people dump those for free, or close to it, because you can't find replacement rotors for them)

And I still have a bunch of parts left to piece together another kit (I just have to buy some calipers, pads and lines).

Leon are you running the ecm link v3 or the lite version? and did you buy the SD bundle from ecm tuning site or you source the sensor from somewhere?

Can you post some pics where you attached the MAP and IAT sensors? Im going with the SD soon, need to know ideally location where to attach those sensors.
