I'm realy peeded with the new rule of giving way to pedestrians at intersections in NSW.
At night time it is so hard to focus on the dark side of an intersection. Most intersections
are lit on one side only. Day time, the new rule is stupid & at night it is rediculous. I have
the legal limit tint on my front doors & looking through them at an angle at night for a pedestrian
on the dark side is taking my eyes off the whole intersection for too long for my liking. Driving
at night is no joy anymore. That's my f'n Rant.
Cheers !

Could be macular degeneration? lol
Most of them rules already existed but they have been poorly understood and so they are hilighting them again.
I agree though, last time I drove my car since when do drivers have to give way to pedestrians at an intersection without a marked crossing? A pedestrian can come to a complete stop, is aware of their surroudings better and can change directions a lot quicker than a moving car can. Plus they will be worse off in the event of an impact. Should be same as boats, the smaller more nimble vessels should give way to the larger slower moving ones. :)

I thought the existing rules were that a pedestrian has right of way as soon as they leave the kerb?

That was with pedestrian crossing lines on the road. Now they can at intersections with no lines.
Rob it doesn't apply at roundabouts, so you can runum over if they try crossing.
I rarely watch tv & luckily I was sent a pdf from a friend about the new rules.
Have they put anything on tv to teach pedestrians ? You usualy post rta related stuff.
I'm puting a fuggly rear nudge bar with tow bar on my jellopy. Smash up derby ready.
Cheers !

wait until you get the 3kmh over the limit shit, then drive at night looking for pedestrians AND watching the speedo.

I recently got booked doing 64kmh through an intersection (green light) that is 70kmh zone on the other side of the lights (and coming the other way)

my bad

I say if you can see the sign that says 70, 80 ect then that is the speed limit from that point.

But the 3km rule Sux huge donkey wang. 10% it should be. If your sitting on 100km, it only take a fraction of mm pedal play to creep over 3km without noticing. The rpm doesn't make any audible noise to notice. Maybe 3500rpm to 3550. It's rediculous. As dougmo says gotta watch your speedo more than the road. So much safer than speeding

why are factory speedo legally calibrated at +/- 10% but we as drivers are not afforded the same leniency. We must be capable of realizing that a speedo is reading slow and by how much and reducing speed accordingly, by the correct amount. Pretty big ask

I've heard that they hide more in Vic than NSW to catch you speeding. So we win here sorta.
NSW has a 2kph limit George. That's a micky hair on the pedal.
Cheers !

What a bloody unrealistic Nanna Republic country we live in... who do we blame? the baby boomers?

George, 3kmh is contestable and DONT PAY IT. Even vehicles sold off the 2012 showroom floor do not have TRUE speedo calibration.
Once you accept a fine and pay for it, you've admitted liability. IMO always contest a fine for <10% over the speed limit.
I think we're all used to pushing the boundary and forget that the signposted limit is THE MAXIMUM speed you are permitted to drive on that particular road - not the slowest speed. But do be done for 3kmh over the limit... absolutely apalling and should never have occured.

Do yourself a favour and hook up a GPS to your car and go driving.... your speedo should read 5-12kmh less than the true speed you are actually doing according to the GPS. If you can test it with another GPS, by all means do so :)
I know in my UF Nimbus, I have to have the needle just over 120kmh to get the GPS to read 110kmh limit. This explains why Ive driven past many radars at 120kmh (on speedo) and never been pullled over or fined [touch wood]. Or perhaps the Nimbus is really good at being the ultimate incognito daily??

One of my ex cop friends told me that they used to set their radar up at 17kmh over the legal speed limit in high speed environments/ black spot areas/ areas with a history of accidents (high speed >= 80kmh) to accomodate for speedo discrepancies - thats a fair line to draw in the sand in my opinion. Therefore if their radar picked you up at 18kmh over the signposted speed limit (say 98kmh), you're booked for the speed they actually get you for = 98kmh.

The RMS of NSW arent introducing more fixed speed cameras, its actually quite the opposite. They've already commenced decommisioning them across the state. Also the NSW Police cant even fund the maintenance of their fixed red light cameras, speed cameras etc so many just sit there for months even years doormant and unoperational. This isnt a reason to let your guard down, because the number of mobile speed cameras have increased... and no GPS can warn you beforehand about where those are!

blah gotta love qld normally a 10k/h leeway for speeding it is very very rare to get a fine for less than 10 over. however i'm not liking the idea of our new hoon laws!

Factory speedos can only be calibrated to read up to 10% faster than the actual speed .They must not read slower than the actual speed.
