No more phantom knock

Hi guys,

as you might have gleaned from alot of my previous posts i have been having probs with knock.
I had done quite a few things to try and eliminate but all to no lasting effect.

last sunday (after the drive-in 'cruise') i started the car only to find smoke coming out of the engine bay. I popped the hood but couldn't find the source - then the car just stopped dead. :evil:

Anyhoo, had it towed back to tech sport where they found a balance belt wedged under the timing belt cover. This was causing the rubber to burn hence the smoke. (apparently the belt was 1/2 cm too small.)

They replaced it and ever since i have had next to no knock even after upping the boost.

I have noticed a couple of other anomalies.... the battrey is 15.2V at idle and the low fuel trim is around 132%-139%. Now i do have a hacked MAF (which i dont have any compensation for)

Just another wierdness about my car. sigh

so when u were following me that was ur car smoking dude i thought it was mine good to here al fixed so it didnt stop on u that night did it

along the lines of wat u were saying......
When i got my car,dead stock,i couldnt stop it pinging,so i pulled the timing.
Did Nothing.
Cleaned and serviced the injectors,sprayed atomized water/Carby cleaner to clean the motor up,still nothing

I puleld it right back,i was running 3 degrees timing...still pinging.
I bought an SAFC2,ran it rich with 3 degrees timing and eliminated it,but i knew it was for all the wrong reasons

The problem...

Whoever did my timing belt last had put it on wrong
One tooth out.
Thats what it was.

Now its right,im back at 10 deg timing,with moderate fuel map on 1 bar.
No more ping

maybe that was occuring with yours?.
oh yeah.And when u check your timing,make sure to earth the CORRECT plug on the fire wall.
get the wrong one and u'll blow other fuses.
Its amazing how many mechanics forget about that plug.
