Hey,

yesterday morning my car just stopped in the middle of the road. Just stalled.

I've done the fuel pump/ecu check, and that works.

It's cranking over, but it has no spark.

Anyone got any ideas to check ? i went on a hunt down the wreckers today down here looking for spare coilpacks and the ballast resister, but could not find anything.

Pretty sure i picked up a lemon and a 1/2 !

Pete.

check for parts on hyundai sonata. you want the 2 litre dohc from about 1992 to 1998 ish. engine designation g4cp. they have a 4g63 with all same bits. (afm is different) they are cheap and easy to find

ECU the same too ? Or do I need to find one in NZ/Japan ?

Thanks
Pete.

mate, i didnt look at the ecu. but they are non turbo anyway. i not sure what the ecu are shared between. probably evo or gsr would fire it up.
i would offer some bits to borrow from my g4cp, but it had electrical issues and thats why he wrecked car and i got engine, so i cant be sure my bits are good.
cwolf is in bunbury maybe he can help with some things. email him

Get a multimeter onto your ecu. There should be 3 main 12v on it. Look at the pinout diagram for ur ecu. Then check that the coil pack is getting power. Simply get ur multimeter onto the plug for ur coil (mine being an evo3 has 3 wires) one should be getting signal from the ecu. If that's ok then check power is going to ignotors and crank angle sensor. Not sure which wires though. If it's all getting signal ur ecu is fine and the problem might be in the coils, ignotors,or crank angle sensor.

I had a problem just been fixed. It cranked but no spark. Checked all the above and ended up being crank gale sensor.

thanks for the input guys, will head down to the wreckers today and see if there's any down here and grab what I can. I'm better off having more spares then I need then none at all.

And the winner is..... Gianni !

No injector pulse, put on Snap-On Scanner and come up CAS.

Jack have you got the part number for the Sonata sensor please ? There's none at the wreckers here.

And the ACA catalogue states :

Sonata G4CP 4/93-4/94 2.0 4 MPI - 2CS406
Sonata G4CP 4/94-98- 2.0 - MPI - 2CS4019

which one sohuld i try and get ?

no mate, no idea. but still could be the wiring to or from the cas.

i dunno if this is the same as yours, but if it is there are some other cars listed they come on as well

Towing the car home tonight, so when i get it i'll have a play and see if i can find it.

I haven't done the Mitsi ones before, so heres hoping.

hang on, according to a heap of the pictures on the net, there's 4 different positions for these !

according to some, it's behind the cam gear on the head. That sound right ? or it under the black plastic cover near the crank itself ?

And just to show i'm not loopy.

I'm guessing it's under the cam over behind the exhaust wheel ?

bing!

balance shaft belt snapped and took out the crank angle sensor!

thats probably a good thing though, saved any more damage.

I guess in a good way it has saved me, in a bad way i destroyed the middle cam cover trying to get things apart etc, and it was well hidden.

Now to find a proper manual for this thing, as all the ones i've found so far has had different timing marks to what i've got.

just a little suggestion.....take the head off and get the valves checked.

dont just hope they are OK as these are an interference engine and the likely hood of valve damage is high with a broken belt.

I have a manual for the evo engine...not sure if the RVR is the same.

will be having a look, it's on the things to do I made today.

I've downloaded 2 different manuals today, and both manuals show different timing marks to what's actually on my motor.

Also, i'm chasing the middle cam cover, i accidently broke mine if anyone has one for sale please.

Will also be swapping out water pump while i'm at it.

it looks like only the balance shaft belt Brian, so the valves should be good.

2G Eclipse stuff would be what you are after, a mid section timing cover will be the same, these can be found on ebay.

just follow VFAQ (.com) about the 2G stuff for your timing belt info, it wont be exact, but you will be able to put "2 and 2" together.

I thought that was the timing belt...

and now the other possible bad news.....these usually check balance shaft belts when the bearing spin on the balance shafts so check the shafts rotate freely without any sticking when turning them

sorry to be negative and I hope all is well with the engine. i just hate doing a job and starting the car to find out that some thing else is stuffed
