I'm in the position to be able to purchase some brand new CB front guards, bonnet etc that are non genuine. This is will save me HEAPS of cash on prep time before paint etc.

What i wanna know is if anyone has used non genuine parts like guards etc- and what the fitment is like. The last thing I wanna do is have a bunch of mis-aligned guards etc

Everyones comments appreciated

i have a bit of experience with them dre, some of the non gen stuff isnt bad, some is rubbish and requires grinding, aligning.

at the end of the day its pretty good value for money, but no good for a show car.

the brand does make a difference too.

i have used them on a few cars for racing because they are thinner too(light weight racing panels)

pm me if you like with the brands and the price and ill compare.

We somtimes use non-genuine parts (if requqested by the customer) in our workshop. Parts like bonnet, fenders, headlights, taillights and bumpers are easily available. Alignment, when fitting is somtimes a little problem, but generally the gaps turn out to be o.k.

i'm a crash repairer, with non genuine parts you are pretty much guaranteed misaligned and ripply panels, we usually keep returning them until we receive one that is "acceptable", they are never perfect, you have to weigh up cost vs quality

Well ... its all depends actually ... with Hyundai non-genuine parts (we usually order from SSS auto) they fit very nicely and panels are very straight.

I have never tried Lancer non-genuine parts yet but have done a Magna rear bumper before. The fitment is good and holes are aligned.

The lastest one that we had problem with and have to send it back for another one is a Ford XH panel van parts. The fitment was horrible. But the new one that they send out seems to fit OK.

So if you ended up getting non-genuine parts, make sure you try the fitment first before you starting rubbing it for painting. If the fitment is bad then atleast you can send it back for another one.

Another thing that knowone has mentioned is "what happens in a few years".... My panel shop told me to be careful of using non genuine panels because they can end up rusting a lot quicker than genuine panels.

I have non genuine guards and bonnet on my car, the guards are holding up but the bonnet os piss poor... already has dents from closing it and the bonnet and is also creased due to the bonnet shocks i have

Only reason i got them was coz i couldnt find any genuine parts in time, car was already at the painters and they needed them within a day.. and when i did find genuine parts they cost a fair bit even for 2nd hand gear

then again Mik your bonnet probably creased due to no support as youve jacked up your bonnet at the hinges

That was my old bonnet, the one on there was the new 1 when i got my car painted and also have 2nd hand hinges on it, its still bowed in the middle

Im after a new ORIGINAL bonnet now for the coupe, keep the 1 on it at the moment to hack up and make some ricy vents lol

grabbed a oze parts rear bumper and reo for a cc, cost same as second hand, mint condition, fitted straight up, came with the fitting clips too which broke pulling old one off :D
