hey guys,

i've been reading a bit about oil feeds to the turbo...

people seem to think its better to feed from the oil filter housing, but how is this done on a Galant VR4?

any help would be much appreciated! :)

mat

run a line from the oil filter housing to the turbo
higher pressure basically

good for sleeve bearing turbo's
u can match up a fitting with the thread by removing one of the fittings thats in your oil filter housing atm..

take that to a hose place, match up a 90 degree fitting or whatever fits and run a braided line from that to the turbo...
oil drain is the same..

i already have a 90 degree hose with a fitting on the end of it...

ill have a look under the car tomorrow.

you don't have any pics of one installed do you baz?

do you know if i need a restrictor in the line?

if its not a ball bearing, then no u dont need one
if it is, then yes you should have one

i believe it isn't

(PICS FROM GTPUMPS)

just buy the kit off them

and at the head (banjo bolt)
just block it off..
u can go to the wreckers and pick up the mitsu plug from an N/A motor..

i'm gonna need quite a few block off bolts!
i need to block all my water lines for starters...

my install kit from extremepsi.com was missing my water pipe block off bolt, so i'll have to find another one of them from somewhere too.

how do i know if i need a restrictor? the turbo will blow oil smoke won't it?

For bb garrett turbos you can run it from the banjo at the head as its a lower pressure feed than the feed at the oil pump (oil pump feed is higher pressure and better for stock turbos). Running bb turbos from the pump without a restrictor is actally bad for them.

u wont need it if its a sleeve bearing turbo

find out what it is first.. ask the dudes u bought them off..

as for the water pipe block off...
the thread on the water pipe is a strange one, u will need to find either - NA water pipe..

OR

get your exising water pipe and get it clamped and braised (or welded).. then galvinise it again to stop it from rusting..

u might be able to find a fitting in the earls catalogue, but i doubt it..
give it a shot anyway since the car is in pieces, just remove that water pipe from your car and take it into a pirket / nordens / fitting place and tell them what u want to do..

or take your old water line and show them that, so they can measure the thread and the seal type..

dad reckons there's a nuts and bolts place in moorabbin somewhere, so we might take the old bolt down there and match it up with something that preferably doesn't have a hole in the end of it

what do you mean by sleeve bearing? i know its not ball bearing. it says its "360 degree race" but that's all i can find so far.

looking at that picture, how do you actually get the fitting to turn?

i tried and because its right angled, it hits the oil filter housing after about 2 turns and i can't get it to tighten up.

someone please help! :?

When I removed my remote oil filter on my GSR, I disconnected the braided oil line first and then loosened the bolt to the remote oil filter housing. I don't see there being any other way?

Or are you talking about something else, because that seems rather obvious to me :p

like titan said, just disconnect the braided line from the 90 degree fitting and then you should be able to turn it freely to tighten it. It looks as though it has edges made for a spanner to fit around anyways..............

no no... the braided line isnt installed yet...

that's not a pic of my car

the 90 degree elbow fitting isn't installed yet either.

when i try to tighten it up, the section of it that connects to the braided hose hits the oil filter housing, so i can only tighten it up 1-2 turns.

can u tighten it up without the hose first?

is it long enough to point down or up instead of like the pic?
can u get a 45 degree angle instead?

ive been trying to tighten it up without the hose

dad's going down to enzed for me tomorrow to see if we can get a straight piece to go into the oil filter housing and then screw the 90 degree fitting into the straight one... so the straight piece will act like a spacer.

also, it doesn't really make a difference if it points up or down, i can't tighten it up because on each turn the thread that connects to the hose gets stuck against the oil filter housing.
