my oil sump is starting to leak.. only a few drops every 2 days or so..

how much is it to change and how hard??

is it still safe to drive on the cruise?? lol

what part of the sump is it leaking from dude?

is it the sump plug? if so, go to autobarn and buy some new sump plug washers/seals. they're about $2 for a pack of them.

not hard to fix, and it will be fine for the cruise.

yeah coz the surrounding of the sump is covered in oil..

and once in a while it leaks to the floor..

well a mechanic apprentice said so anyway

get some degreaser, give it a big clean up...
wipe it all down, etc etc etc..

after u drive it, jack it up and take a peek.. find the leak

could be from
- sump seal (not sure if there are any gaskets actually, usually its sealant)
- sump plug washer (replace every service)
- oil drain gasket, oil drain line...

good luck bud, should be okay to drive.. as long as its not pissing out

well im gona go apollo bay the week after.. so it should be fine for that as well yeah?

ill have a look at it this weekend when i have time..

im sitting on 169500kms.. so probably service it at 170k

what oil and plugs is recommended??

it should be fine, as baz said, as long as you're not losing heaps of it.

magnatec seems to be pretty good in my car... everyone has a different opinion though.

the sump plug seals will vary depending on the size of your sump plug... they're basically a washer that goes between the bolt and the sump.

Only way to fix a leaking sump seal is to tighten up the sump bolts to spec at 10-12Nm (7.5-8.5 ftlbs) as its not uncommon for them to work loose - this may or may not fix the problem or may only be a temporary solution; OR, you can do the inevitable and drop the crossmember and turbo return line and unbolt the sump and do it properly with a good clean by getting rid of all the old traces of gasket/slicone, clean both surfaces with metho so theres no traces of oil on them, then use some fresh hi-temp silicone sealer and retension bolts to 10-12Nm (7.5-8.5 ftlbs) If its not bad most people probably wont even worry about it until it gets much worse.

Its most likely not the sump at all as Liberoz has said its very rare for a sump to leak.

What is most likely is that the oil has leaked from somewhere else and collected along the sump/block connection.

I thought my sump was leaking until a good degrease showed it was actually the front main seal and the cam seals were a bit leaky too.

The front main is likely to be the culprit, especially at those kind of k's, mine was leaking at 175 000 :)

Ya kidding me arent ya? :p On stock unopened engines that may be the case but obviously the engine has had to have been rebuilt at some stage in its life by now meaning someone has had the sump off - can you guarantee that they did a good job in sealing it? maybe they used gasket goo or a low temp silicon sealer, didnt tighten the bolts up properly, threaded the bolts in the block, or maybe even used a ****** cork/paper gasket? I'm not saying that it is or isnt the sump gasket but you cant rule it out as the cause either  A good degrease, clean up and wipe down before a drive and then checking for leaks afterwards would help diagnose the problem area :)

Why would the engine have been rebuilt already?

I was under the impression that his engine was stock/unopened hence why I said that :D

I still think its going to be the front or rear main  hehe
