Just seeing what you guys think of this.

94 gsr 245 000k completely stock - $5000

problems

superficial
- rear bumber is loose and support behind it is caved in
- rusty roof with afew dents aswell
- quite a few dents all round, pretty big dents

mechanical
- oil leak from somewhere near bottom end, a few droplets were on the bottom of the sump.
- there was oil stain on the rocker cover - why and how the hell did it get there
- blowing a bit of smoke even after 20 minutes of driving. Whitish smoke - im guessing turbo because the engine felt pretty smooth for it to be rings?
- highish idle 1k - 1.5k

I'm leaning towards not bothering but $5000 bucks is pretty tempting. Thoughts people

i know, the body work is the big deterent for me, especially the roof.

i estimate probably 6k would have to be spent on the body for panel beating and respray. that brings it upto $11 000. And then your left with a car thats done 245 000k's and is blowing smoke lol. when i think about it that way its a no brainer.
 
yeah i know, i didnt end up seeing it, not really what i wanted and i didnt want to travel to rockingham to see it if i probably wasnt going to buy it.

By now you can probably tell im too much of a perfectionist lol, not gonna buy something unless its up to my standards. :D
 
k opinion

is the 5000 negotiable? might be able to get it cheaper. 4,500?

idle problems probably idle controller unit (cheap).

white smoke - either turbo or rings... if turbo good excuse for a td05 (wouldnt go too crazy considering the kms), or if its rings, good excuse for rebuild or 2L transplant hahahah

and as for the body... hmm well... rusty roof... get a new skin apparently guys here reckon around $600...
plus panel work and spray job, i reckon you could fit that in for easy 4-5K including the skin+labour.. this is considering i had some damage on my car when i bought it (fair few dents on boot which looked like hail damage or something, hole in the orig. gsr bonnet from bonnet being shut with battery clamp too high apparently, rear left quarter scratched and hit in) and had the car prepped/fixed and then complete 2pk respray for 3K and its straight and lookin schmicko!!

but yeah all the $$$$ adds up i guess huh?.... considering you can buy one in decent nick for the same amount
 
Nah 5k is absolute lowest he will go was 6K

how much do standard 4g93 rebuilds cost these days anyways, i dont want any fancy rods, pistons and all that crap?
 
The biggest cost will be machining.

You'll never know how much that'll cost until you're in upto your neck anyway... gotta pull it apart to physically look at the bores.

Average engine in/out for a std rebuild will cost you somewhere round 4k usually I guess. Start adding fancy bits and you go north REALLY REALLY REALLY fast.
 
for 5k it wouldnt make such a bad investment for parts perhaps?

plenty of demand for standard gsr parts around...
