Yeah. I think there was a thread on them last week
Anyone know if the gearbox output shaft to the transfer case in an evo 3 is the same shaft as in a w5m33.... gearbox in an hsg rvr.? If so Im trying to find part number for output shaft seal from gearbox and guess it would be same for evo 3 if shafts are same. Local parts dealers up here couldnt even tell me what oil to put into the transfer case when i blew a seal because............."the rvr was imported in". No shit..........where were evo 1-3 and cc gsr made to in Australia???? And they couldnt even give me the transfer case fluid details (type/quantity) for evo 1-3, ccgsr and they are authorised mitsi dealer up here!!!!
Should the output shaft from the gearbox come out of the gearbox easily?
I have tried to fit my transfer case today and it didn't fit securely. Then I tried to removed the transfer case and the the output shaft from the gearbox came out instead of the transfer case coming off.
Hypo, there is a small ballbearing that retains that shaft. Either that ball bearing is in the bottom of your box OR it was forgotten when assembled (if it was taken apart at some stage). The output shaft is generally loose though.
Its an easy enough job to do yourself...just remove the 12mm bolts that hold the end cover to gearbox, I think there is 10 of them from memory, just do it carefully so you dont disturb the sandwich plate. Then remove the circlip which holds the viscous coupling and slide/tap that off the output shaft.
This will reveal a hole in the top of the output shaft which you just drop the detent ball( ball in the pic I posted above) into and Bobs your mothers, cousins, uncle !
Then replace the viscous coupling, circlip, clean old glue off gearbox and end cover re-glue the end cover back on and put the bolts back in..Thats it..
Its piss easy to do yourself....
