I am buying new tyres all round for my ride and I have settled on RE001's.

I'm going to be using it as my daily driver and will be hitting the track on occasion... probably not more than a few times a year if that matters...

Anyway, are they the best tyre (in terms of the $$$) for my application?

Can anyone recommend anything better, or warn me about anything...
Im just looking for some input, because it is only more recently i have begun to think about the physics and understanding of spirited driving and realising those westlakes i had slid when it was dry that I have looked into new rubber.

Quoted $210/tyre includes fitment, balance and alignment in price
Stock GTi wheels, suited 205/45R16

Any insight, be it support or criticism of the tyres much encouraged!

Cheers, Cael

daily driver, grip and $$$ dont go well.

RE001 might wear out quicker then you'll want, especially on the front!

hmmm...

I am a hoon about 10-20% of the time i am driving, so im not gonna be lighting them up all the time... or do you mean in general..

I just want the best tyre i can get for best traction on road then... that is it pretty much

you should have a set of semis for the track/weekend of spirited driving, and normal every day tyres for daily driving ;)

Agreed...if you can afford them, I ran my street tyres at my first track day (a set of near brand new dunlop sp sport max) and destroyed them after 5 runs.
If you plan on doing a few events semis will quickly pay for themselves.
Also use the search function as there is a thread on recommended tyres on here somewhere.

Hmmm, yeh I wanted to get some semis for track, and that possibly would ultimately be more economic and smarter having understood what has been said and seconded now...

I guess I gotta find a tyre which is as grippy and WON'T wear out so quickly...

But perhaps i should just go with the Potenza set and see how i like them, and how they go...

I know... but my post is about me an my application and my decision looking for criticism from people who are more endowed with knowledge on this subject than I

And I knew a new post would attract those who have the knowledge to share and are happy to  so thank you for your assistance guys, more research to be done...

Cheers!

A lot of people run these on the track with no problems at all. They are a step off semi's but if you can't afford them these are great for both.

I run these, and have done 5 odd trackdays and a years worth of driving and still haven't replaced yet.

Toyo R888s are pretty cheap

Out of interest how much do they cost in NZ? as I have a set and they were far from cheap-$420 a corner, but worth the dollars.
RE55's are a cheaper alternative, I would have bought a set but they are not made in the size I needed.

205/50/15s can be had for around $240-260ea (I have a hookup and picked up a set this morning at $200ea)

Had some 235/40/17s for when I have the Brembo setup quoted at $335ea a while back.

As you say, worth the money. I've been running R888s as street tyres as they were cheaper than my last set of actual street tyres haha.

I'm a big fan of Toyo tyres- have 2 sets of T1S and some T1R's and they are AWESOME, but obviously more expensive than your nankangs :p

Hankook R-S2 Z212s are the best street tyres I've ever owned. Agree with above also, get some semis for track stuff. Toyo R888s are pretty cheap

+2 on the Hankook RS2's, awsome street tyre, wasn't the longest lasting thing but gripped very well... although i believe they are now discontinued....

I have the Potenza Adrenalins, as do a few a mates, all of them are really pleased with these tyres. A few are also tracking on them, they wear pretty well.

+3 best tires ive ever had. theyve lasted me ok, but then again, i dont think ive done more than 3000ks on em :w00t:

Well i have enquired about a few;

205/45R16
Dunlop Sport Maxx - $250 each
Toyo T1-R - $199 each
Toyo R1-R - $229 each
Adrenalin RE001 - $220 each

Heard Hankook is sorting out distribution atm, apparently they took it off of the dealers and are going to sell them themselves? so wasn't able to get prices..

But anyway, the general consensus was to go with the T1-R for my road use, but to procure a set of semis for track.

So I am thinking if I buy a set of T1-R and fit them to my stockies that are currently on the car, then purchase some wheels for track (me feels the need to search for advice on track rims) and wrap them in semis.

Perhaps i can locate a set of semis already on some wheels.... have to investigate this...

i got the re001's on mine and they are a good tyre, very predictable thats for sure.

i think later this year though when i want to track the car i will still try and get a set of semis
