Hi all,

Just curious to what sort of power a stock gsr box will hang onto before it starts falling over aswell as early series evo boxes.

Cheers.

This has been covered in another thread on this forum, there was quite a bit of "emotion" stirred. It makes for informative (and interesting!) reading on this topic.

I know from personal experience that 300kw and over 550Nm atw will kill an EVO2 4th gear after 5.5 laps on a circuit car and when 3rd and 4th are beefed up, it will eventually kill 5th gear too.

The consensus is 220-250kw atw is usually as far as people can push them with a high probability of long-term survival, but at the end of the day it comes down to more factors than just power and torque.

It's torque and repeated 3/4 pulls that kills the stock box. If you give it time between pulls to cool down, and keep it at 400 ft-lbs (not sure what that is in metric), it should live a long time. Above that, you're rolling the dice with the 3/4 hub & slider.

My EVO II gearbox died under load at SMSP going up the hill at the back in 4th gear under load. Only 200kw at all 4.

yep the heat generated on the track kills them fast, they seem to last on the street or 1/4 mile a lot better

like shayne i smashed one on the track with just over 300kw after a few laps, but it survived high boost and 400kw on the dyno

I would say you need to log your gearbox temps and get an idea of how hot it's running. As you don't want the oil running too hot, you don't want it running too cold either.

From all the research ive done over the years id say about 250kw reliably, more if you use it for short periods.
Might be worth someone with the know how putting together some kind of external oil cooler to try keep temps down?

In all honesty thats about as far as i will go power wise, the manual will be behind a 93T anyway. Just while i sort funds to build the 63 and put the auto in. With the current young family and home improvements that could be years.
