Hmmm the best looking of the Evos. I've always wanted one. Are you SURE it's registrable in all states? Every Evo IV I have looked at has had a 6T9REP/REB/CE Lancer VIN number which means you can only rego it in Vic or QLD.

I bought the car from the guy in SA and brought over to Victoria and registered here. This car can be registered at any state as it is not re-shell EVO IV.

From what I heard from the vehicle inspector from Vicroads and what I know, this car was originally imported by SA company as a part car and claimed that they used the shell to fit australian engine etc etc. However, they used a hoophole in the system and never actually dismantle anything and got a modification label to registered in SA.

Chase VIN CN9A000XXXXX was stamped to the firewall and as well as on Japanese compliance plate but Australian VIN number was also given to the car in ordered to be registered in Australia.

If you ask me how it is done? I do not know. Just think I am lucky enough to own genuine EVO IV in Australia.

That is why there is no yellow plate for personal import.

Sorry, I did not know the rule....
So I have to set the price is it? even though it is just EOI at this stage?

i just edited my post, i googled 6P9REP and came up with nothing. has anyone else seen that before?

Yeah the 6x9REP numbers can only be registered in Victoria or Queensland. Unless that's changed.
Can we please stop this discussion?

The car was first registered in SA. Check the photo with modification label issue by Department of Transport SA.

I asked VICROADS officer when I was registering the car in VIC 2 years ago and he said this car can be registered anywhere in Australia.

No, people need to know for sure that they can register this car anywhere before they part with their hard earned cash.

I'm sorry but I would not buy a car based on the fact that someone said that they asked some Vic roads guy 2 years ago about registering a car in other areas of Australia that he probably doesn't know/care about.
Please provide an official letter from Vicroads so that people have peace of mind in any possible purchase.
Better yet, how about you call all of the other states with the Rep vin number and ask them if it can be legally registered there and provide solid evidence of such?
You yourself said that the guys in SA did a dodgy to get it registered there, what is to stop that history catching up with the car at some point?

I just asked the NSW RTA if the VIN number can be registered in NSW and they said it cant be coz the car was imported it was vinned as a REPairable write-off, and cannot be registered in NSW under our import laws

And just curious, does the plate say its has a 4G15 engine?? and now it has a 4G63?? does that mean the car is also engineered?? i dont know about the laws in VIC so im asking

It will be a genuine Evo 4. There was a loophole for a couple of years where you could bring in a parts car and get it registered in VIC and QLD for sure, and it seems like SA as well. I think the VIN numbers were allocated by the cops or the state RTA/Vicroads/etc. Some of them were called in for inspection by the state transport authority to make sure they complied with the ADRs. If the car didn't, they were fixed at Vicroads' expense. All of them should have been looked at by now.

Apparently there is no problem registering these in Vic or QLD. And it is preferable to a cut and shut which has an Evo 4 rear from the firewall with a CE Lancer front welded on (and JMFDNCJ / JMFSNCKxxxx VIN number).

If you want an Evo 4 that is registerable in ALL states you have two choices:
1. Buy a dodgy cut and shut with an Australian CE Lancer front welded on. Probably not the best idea. Some of these are registered with "repairable write off" status.
2. Find one with a yellow personal import plate.

For anyone looking at Vic registered cars, go to http://www.vehiclestatuscheck.vicroads.vic.gov.au and punch in the rego number.

Sorry to piss you off OP, but it would suck for a buyer who later found out they can't register it in their state and have a $18k parts car stuck in their driveway.
