Private Section Removal

Dear Private Members.
As of the Ist of December the Private section will be no longer.
As a Mod/Admin team we have reached the conclusion that we would like the forum to be as open as possible, and to move away from a "private" type of sub forum.
We will still maintain the 'Private Rides' thread for privacy of you're rides, as we understand that most would not like private details of they're pride and joy shared with the greater community.
If there is any matter that you believe may be of a private nature please PM one of the mods/admins and they will further assist you.

We will be sorting through all of the threads and using our discretion to allocate relevant posts to General.
Those that are of a more private nature will not be accessible and will be removed.

It has its good and bad points.
But up until recent has turned into a bitching forum.
Hence its removal.

I don't agree with it. I think it is a good thing. There are lots of people that abuse forums in one way or another. I know that anyone in this private section can be trusted because I/we/others have vouched for them. I think it makes people not in the private section actually contribute to the community to gain access.

I agree with it being removed - the Private Discussion section seems to be used as more of a slanging off area for a particular forum than anything else.

There are two main issues.

1. The majority use it to create issues between us and other forums. Running this forum is a volunteer thing. Not a business, and responding to hate emails from other forums about "things that have been said on Team4G" are not something that we enjoy doing.

2. Content that is not private is posted in the private section. This limits the content in the public section and as a result reduces the info for our regular users (not bad people - just mostly people that don't use a computer very often and aren't well "known"). This means that less content is visible externally on the net, therefore there are less search strings to drive more users to this forum, and therefore less opportunities for new members to join. We want more members for a better cross section of information. Eg. A random user from Canada joins and posts up his custom made headlights and a bit of info. Up until then we never had someone like that join.

The fact remains that on a public forum, what you write is public. Even on a "private section" of a public forum your comments and info can be viewed by someone else and spread pretty quickly. Eg, telling someone a secret in year 9.

Ultimately a private section does nothing for a the club that we are. It closes the doors to others.

If you really feel as though you need a private section to chat, create a social group on the forum. Only your members of that group will be able to read the content, along with the admins/mods of course.

Lorrie, I'm not sure if you remember but you were willing to let this forum die completely if we didn't take it over. So removing the private discussion is a lot less drastic than what you had planned.

We are much better with that! We are growing in numbers so hopefully we can start of little mini events in the near future. No need to bitch about others let keep it real!

Funny that hey but a said other forum have private sections and guess what they can and do discuss behind their own closed doors issue's at hand. Its what its there for! why not keep it if you only knew what was writen on other private sections our section is tane as and we are very mild compared I know as I have access.
Maybe the difference is here that the private section has too many members in it to make it effective for its sole purpose??

I reckon we should remove the individual state events and join then all up.
I'd put the state in the front of the event.

Sort of like what OZ HONDA do.
I think its good because it allows us to see what everybody else is doing and also allows us to aware of what is going on interstate...
