I'm like you , and leave it on quite abit , its just the thermal paste goes dry and hard over time and there is not to much you can do , its also the issues with the Xbox 360
Sony charge a flat rate of $315 to repair it , it cost me $15 and 3 hours of my time
the best prevention is to try to keep it in a well ventilated area , mines usually just behind my TV which I wouldn't advise due to the heat out of a plasma , I think its time for a change for my setup , I also think standing up is a better way for the heat to get out of the unit quickly
