I was reading a article in a fast fours magazine about race fuels. The main issue of concern is about octane rating VS emmisions system.

To go to bried i will write here the conclusion:

Race fuel say like 110 ron fuel will go done to 100 with oil recirculated as normal. They mentioned that if you use the factory pvc/breather system, the actual oil mist will reduce octane rating. So yeah, they said if you use like 110 ron fuel it will go down to like 100, due to oil still contaminating the fuel

I heard about external suction pumps to suck out the blowby gasses, what do you reckon.

its the pcv... the valve that has a hose connecting the rocker cover to the inlet manifold.

it will reduce the octane rating if you're getting oil in your combustion mixture.

the PCV will only work on vac... so only on idle and cruise...
on boost, it will close so there shouldn't be a problem with that...

although the vent that goes back into your intake pipe will cause that issue..

but with the hose plumbed into your intake pipe, there is the theory that it helps pull the rings against the cylinder walls which will help make power..

the cheap and easy way, catch can...
the best way, vac pump (moroso offers one).. but pricey!!

Some small airplane motors just connect the hose from the rocker cover to a pipe welded into the exhaust at an angle and use the suction of the exhaust to pull the fumes out. Not too sure how the transport guys would like that on cars though :D

Mitsubishi also do the same trick with its diesel engines, the crankcase breather on my triton is hooked back up into the air filter housing...its a stupid idea as last time i changed my glowplugs I took the intercooler off and it was full of oil and dirty gritty crap that had the consistency of grinding paste....have since had a vented catch can made up for it.

Am i reading this wrong? I believe Rob323 was talking about the exhaust, not the intake.
But yeah, i doubt they'd like it and perhaps the oil fumes would probably block up the CAT?.... but then if you did this you probably wouldn't be using one .....

Yep, I was referring to the exhaust. There is probably nothing to stop you utilising the same type of idea, which ONLY get connected when racing, and just blocked off and using the std recirclutation through the air intake during street driving. Best of both worlds but might take 5 minutes to swap it all around each time.

i've already tried it guys on my car, it doesn't work on a turbo car with a cat as the exhaust system is also under pressure.

the only way you could possibly do this if you you have the valve welded after the muffler / cat, or any type of restrictor in the exhaust. It will work nicely on an n/a car though! once again, after the cat or muffter... depending on your exhaust.
