damn straight. And being as the whole thing will be all of 1.5mm thick it won't raise the height of the support very much so your rad will still be supported. Also it stops redrilling of holes or having to supply additional mounting hardware with the cooling plate. No point reinventing the wheel :)

And for anyone who uses custom radiators, the custom mounts invariably use those holes as well and thus they should also fit all forms of custom radiators.

The only issue I have atm is getting a prototype made up to see if the bonnet taps it when it's fully shut, or to see if it taps the upper edge of the grille when fitted. In either case, that's the point of prototyping. Should hopefully have one cut out tomorrow, otherwise early next week. Supplying the drawings to the lasercutter tomorrow am.
 
Just a quick update for you guys, the item is now at the lasercutters getting prototyped out of 1.5mm mild steel (it's cheaper to prototype). Once I make any refinements (if any), the production run will go through out of 1.5mm mirror finish stainless.

Bling much?
 
I get the prototype back on wednesday, barring any changes (and even if there are some minor ones) first production run should be started by the following monday. I'll have pricing for you all mid next week.
 
Wow, what do you do for a job Lawrence? You seem pretty cluey with tech drawing / drafting.
The plate should look shmick in SS! :)
 
I work in a restaurant.

I'm almost a qualified Mechanical/Mining Engineer (just got a thesis to go mate). Work with solidworks at uni all the time, also other programs like autocad, cnc stuff for milling rigs, surpac and so forth.

Honestly, Solidworks is so easy these days you could teach most of it to yourself (if you have patience and a manual)

I would post the dimensioned drawing but I plan to actually make a little bit of money off this, so would defeat the purpose to give all the hard work to someone else :p
 
Bonnet prop will close over the top of it.

It's one of the major concerns I had with the prototype, it's also a major reason I'm having a prototype made up because I'm pretty much certain my measurements and angles elsewhere are spot on.
 
Am now developing a gas bonnet strut kit to go with these deflectors. There is no way to engineer the deflector around the bonnet strut closing area short of cutting a giant hole in the deflector and making it a two piece item with a bigass hole in the middle of it (defeats the purpose right?)

The issue isn't the bonnet staying down (it will close fine), the issue is keeping the bonnet up. I'm looking at either adapting the lancer/later model evo setup (small strut mounted along the side of the guard) or using gas struts. Thoughts guys? Gas struts would be SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive.

i read somwhere the alloy bonnets can start to bend with gas struts??
 
I think that guy and I think much the same. Disturbingly so.

In any case, have begun designwork for this and will be marketting them seperately to the cooling plates. Depends what I can mass purchase gas struts for and what ratings I need. Anyone know what a stock GVR4 Bonnet weighs?
 
the overall weight isnt gonna be all you need is it? need to know CofG to work out how much lift you need at a certain point etc... either way its all sounding good
