I just went into my local radiator shop and they can provide a brand new EVO II radiator for the pricely sum of $250.

This is through a company in Melbournce called Phoenix radiators.

Has anyone used one of these items?

It is a aluminium core with plastic tanks.

Same price as purchasing a ASI Aluminium product from ebay.

Thanks

farken my radiator just broke today on the way home from work, the top connector where the hose connects to broke in half. Don't know if I should try get it fixed or replaced... hrm.

You'd still prefer an alloy one over a plastic tank radiator anyday. Plastic tanks are weak. The price tag of the alloy ones these days is great. If they need a bit of fixing, modding, whip out a TIG :)

It isnt that easy to just "rip out a tig" Rob lol.
The alloy's are good bang for buck.
I've had an ASI on mine, and have encountered a few small issues with them, mounting points arent completely in line, also the welds arent that thick, the plastic drain plug also gave me some dramas, as did the crappy washers that were supplied.
After I got over all of these issues, its been fine.

Had the same thing happen to my sons car and had the top tank replaced at a radiator place it was for an s13 silvia and was around $100 included a clean.
Anyway the point is that this is common with the plastic tanks and generally only affects the top tank as it cops all the hottest water and tends to go brittle, so an all alloy unit wouldn't suffer from this.

cheers

alright cool, I'll keep it in mind, I'm fairly sure its last 200,000kms so thats pretty good, but I'll perhaps try get an all alloy one (if I don't get it fixed) :)

cheers.

LOL, I have been working on my vr4 when the radiator hose top connector broke off when i bumped it. luckily i have an alloy one as a spare.

contact michael auto parts, i got a golpher rad sent to my door for $240, all alloy, cap is only issue but nothing a $10 one cant fix

Whats wrong with the cap? I haven't had any issues with mine.

I was looking at new radiators (koyo ones) last week for my rally car and all the new plastic end tanks seem to be made from reinforced nylon. I'm wondering if the days of cracked plastic end tanks is over, after all, we are basing these fears on plastic design/ technology that is 15-20 years old.

For my application, I will be trying to go as thin as possible and as large as possible.

The one I got with my rad wouldnt seal, you could push the spring bit and a gap would form from that to the top of the cap, I threw mine straight in the bin.

Mine has been fine, and was the only radiator I found that had the required GSR temp sensor thread in the tank.
