hey guys,

Been a while since i posted here and wanna thank you guys in advance for all the useful info. I'm getting a ticking noise when i put my foot down. I know the ticking sound is not coming from the engine, because I can clearly hear it from the driver's side dash (just to make sure i checked the engine with my datalogger). The noise exactly sounds like a watch ticking, unlike the marble clicking sound of pinging, and get's faster when i accelerate harder. I've got the lil g-reddy profec B Spec II boost controller's hidden on the right side under the steering wheel... Is this a common problem/noise? How do i check or fix this? And while I'm asking, my intake and front mount makes a huge suction sound on boost, however does not make the power i use to make when i first got the vr4 conversion, although i do still get abit of pull on launch. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hope this is enough info. Here' some more info just in case.

(93 GSR - j-spec vr4 engine, tdo5 16g, e3 front mount w meek a/m piping, chipped ecu w launch control, twin dump pipe, t-back exhaust, profec B boost controller running 17psi, turbosmart plumbback bov, apexi pod intake, na cyclone manifold)

thnx again guys,
Ritch

P.S Can some1 relocate this post to the e1 - 3, GSR Technical forum. Sorry, didn't realise.

Ticking sound is probably something lodged in your brake setup, pull off the wheel and check the rear of the brake setup where the dust shield is (behind the rotor)... they generally bend in from a stone hit and clip the caliper once per rotation if the mounts come loose and so on.

As for the other one... that's an intake leak. Check your piping. Pull your filter off and look THROUGH it at the sun see if you can see through it, might be time for a new one.

thnx for the advice mate.

So if i see through the filter, this means it needs to be replaced? It's been almost 3 1/2 years since i've had that filter in there. When are these supposed to be changed? Unlike the K&N's which you can buy some gear to wash and clean, Apexi doesn't state when it should get changed or how to maintain it.

cheers,
ritch

i'll clean it to double check and ensure the filter is in good nick, but not too sure why it's making a louder suction sound than usual. I can clearly hear from inside the car with my windows up, and sounds like a open ended pipe sucking in air.

thanks for the quick responses. will let u know how it goes.

cheers,
Ritch

If it's making crazy noises liek that, rip off the intake pipe and check the turbine blades. Might have eaten something it didn't like.

Also still check every single connection for leaks.

I hope that you have bigger injectors AND fuel pump to be running that boost? Still sounds like pinging to me.

yep, got a walbro fuel pump, but using standard vr4 blue injectors.. blue ones.

I have the exact same thing in my stock GSR.

I have attributed it to the actual instruments but more importantly the odometer. I thing its play that has developed in the odometer gears and its ticking from that.

I am yet to take it to an instruments specialist though.

Oh and mine only seems bad when its on the open road..ie at around 100-110km/h, not just when its on boost.

Hope this helps.

Mimmo
