I finally got this turbo the other day:

The compressor side looks really tidy, minimal shaft play if any. From what I can find it is a Steve Murch(?) MSE turbo from NZ. It has a decent sized compressor housing and comp. wheel and a standard Mitsu 070 rear housing with an Evo 3 dump.
The Rear housing has cracks in the inlet and the wastegate flap has been welded (the dick head had just drilled the stock mani and welded a pipe for the external on it NZ spec! <_<)

This turbo will be going on my VR4 Cordia I'm building.
So my options I see are-
1. Get a manifold with/and an external gate and leave the turbo as is.

2. Replace the 070 housing with a new GT pumps 070 housing and use the GT pumps mani or poss. good 2nd hand 070 housing. Which will return it to internal gate.

3. Replace with larger rear housing and wheel (remember this needs to have a useable band for the track) to either be internal or external gate.

Looking at the size of the comp. housing and wheel along with the 070 housing I think this could be a very streetable/trackable turbo capable of making atleast 220kw in the FWD Cordia! I only want minimal Lag. I tried Googling MSE but can't find any site for them or specs on the turbo.

Advice from the team?

Option 2 for sure.

A little more expensive but the known good manufacturing tolerances and the sheer amount of rape you're going to put the poor thing through means that this is one area you shouldn't skimp on. It will pay dividends later on. Plus e3 turbo's boost early and strong.

Did you buy that turbo off ebay? I thought it was local pickup only!!!!!! You bassssstard!

Steve Murch a.k.a Motorsport Engineering (MSE) doesn't deal with your average Joe Bloggs anymore, due to too many dickheads asking stupid questions.

My best bet would get a GT pumps rear housing for it- and a manifold. That guy I showed you should be able to source them for you for an awesome price

Thanks for the lapdance pics!
I agree with 2 aswell.
Can you justify the use of an external gate? Or would stock be good enough?
Keep the smaller housing too for better spool, especially for track.

No real need for an external gate, and it will be driven on the road a bit so less attention the better.
I think I'll go about getting a 070 housing and port matching the housing and dump.

Yeah, I got it at a steal lol. It waqs pickup only....what can I say, I have a way with words.

i have a gt pumps 070 on my tdo5 hybrid turbo(garret front wheel)
that has had the wastegate port reported and enlarged and I still get a little boost creep.

with the stock 070 it would hold wastegate pressure until 400rpm the creep like a mofo

with the gt pumps ported one I still get a little boost creep, no where near as badly though,I will be reporting again and modding the wastegate flapper further too for the next build.

I've got one of those Steve Murch turbos on my car, with the GT Pumps 070 exhaust housing. It's an absolutely awesome setup.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Easy 220kw atw, no lag whatsoever and it just pulls to redline every gear.

Steve's an ace guy to talk to as well, my phone bill went through the roof when I was talking to him in NZ about my turbo rebuild options before settling on what he did for me.

Thats what I wanted to hear! I didn't have issues with my last b16g, so hopefully boost creep won't be too bad with a ported 070.
Thanks guys.

Took off the exhaust housing today, the exducer has a few chips in the meat of the blade, will run it as is with a new housing and see how it goes.
