Hey all,

What's the best rear sway bar to suit Evo 1-3?

I've heard the Evo 2/3 rear sway bar is the best way to go, does everyone agree?

Are there any decent aftermarket ones if I can't locate the factory option?

Cheers

Depends what you want out of the car. Since the Evos like to understeer, lots of folks counter it with a bigger rear bar.

Evo 1 had a 17mm rear sway bar
Evo 2/3 had an 18mm rear sway bar
Whiteline makes a 20mm rear sway bar
Ultra Racing makes a 23mm rear sway bar

You might also want to match it to the front sway bar. Evo 1 had 18mm and Evo 2/3 had 16mm, this will factor into the choice.

I've got a 20mm white line sway bar I'm pulling out of my car in two weeks if your interested. Only changing it cause going a race fab rear end

I put a 20mm Whiteline rear swaybar in on my 1.8T CC GSR, well worth it, did not touch the front swaybar though.

Understeer much reduced but, FWIW, front caster correction bushes made an equal difference as well.

I have ultra racing front and rear strut bars and fender bars on the car already, maybe I should keep to the same set up lol.

I'd just rather have the best option which ever way I go.

Is there a reason ultra racing went with 23mm? Has anyone used it?

So the ultra racing one is all good?

It was a gsr to start with, so the front will still be that set up. I heard the gsr/Evo 1 were the same, is that correct?

I was sure if I was going to touch the front

evo 2/3 front bar and 23mm rear bar with good lsd in rear makes for awesome controllable power slides

Still works ok on a gsr .... Evo 2\3 front gives better turn in and the steering rack is faster than a Gsr and evo 1....So it's a more controllable setup.

Do you have some reading regarding the steering rack difference? ASA does list a different part number for 1 and 2/3 - I just put a 3 rack in my 1 RS and didn't notice any difference.

I've read that the Evo 2/3 front sway bar setup is quicker to respond vs. the Evo 1. The GSR/Evo 1 setup really wasn't very good for anything except rally stuff.

Yeah I'm just going to do the rear bar and leave the current set up in the front.

I'm going to put some coil overs in too, prob BCs

No....Sorry I dont have a regference to a part number just having parted out many evo 1 2 3 halfcuts I have found the gsr and evo 1 to be 2.75 turns lock to lock......and the evo 2 and 3 are 2.33.

also if you use an evo 4 rack .....with 6mm travel reducers you will end up around 2 ish turns lock to lock.

The fatter the rear bar, the less understeer. But that means it will snap oversteer if you back off when going fast.
Not ideal if the mrs drives, or if your nuts are only size4. You will have to keep on it to keep it neutral. Easier said than done
