As the topic says "recommend me a clutch"

This is a daily driven car, if the pedal is a little heavy, I am not to concerned.
Will do some track days and maybe the odd drag event / motorkhana so has to hold up to some abuse
Suitable for around 200 - 220kw @ wheels.
Have to put a new flywheel in (Stock or otherwise)

The reason I ask is:

My wife has to be able to drive the car, and she cant drive it with the QuarterMaster twin plate in it :)

Prices, Where to get them from and so forth would be great.

I am looking at a Exedy Sports Tough Clutch Heavy Duty Button Kit (MBK-6429HDB)

But any thoughts etc would be great.

This is what I was looking at before I settled on a twin plate.
Note who makes the clutch disc!
Southbend

More info etc

And more

Realistically though, you are going to get a heap of different opinions on here. I would tend to rule most opinions out unless the poster has actually USED the clutch in their own car.
You could always go with a 2g clutch accumulator mod to make the twin disc easy to drive :)
Search for it on Tuners etc to see what I mean.

Thanks for the info, I have used the exedy, and driven another VR4 with the exedy and it was a nice drive, clutch not to heavy, bit well. Thus I started looking at the exedy.

But if there is another brand, which will do just as well but may be cheaper, my ears are open. Then, I will sell the twin plate.

Car is fun to drive with the twin, But after a think, and in case of emergency, my wife cant drive it and most other people cant either.

2g clutch accumulator mod -> Hrmmm, from the sounds of it, makes the car more driveable. Sooo... What exactly is this mod as i cant find an explanation or VFAQ for it.

turns out the drama's with my clutch were the fidanza 3.2 friction plate basically shitting itself on first start. the cushion springs broke and started excessively wearing the spring retainers only after 30kms of driving.

i looked at the southbend for a bit, i also noticed the friction plate appeared to be made by exedy. however after further investigation i couldnt actually find that style of friction plate made by them locally. all i can guess is southbend buy the centre hubs off exedy and then they apply their own friction material (kevlar).

i settled on a clutchnet friction plate, with the fidanza pressure plate. i like the clutchnet stuff because they enclose their cushion springs unlike ever other cushioned hub on the market.

I beat on my Clutchnet 2X pressure plate (2500lb) and the Kevlar sprung disk. Pedal feel is great and its done probably almost 20K now with about 5-10 antilag launches a week.
I though it'd be too soft be its going strong and i'm making about the power your wanting. However some more hp may push it over the edge. Just my experience.

Other American clutches like Tim said southbend and a Spec 4+ sounds good to.

I've got the same exedy clutch you're looking at in my vr4, damn good bit of kit, nice light pedal, not too grabby (for a puck clutch anyway) and has stood up to a tonne of abuse with not even the slightest hint of slippage.

I have one of the exedy sports ceramic clutches, have driven about 50m and it felt pretty good, thats not really a good bit of info for you though

I run a solid centre 3 puck and its suprisingly good to drive, doesnt shudder etc...

let me know if you want a price on an exedy, might be able to hook you up ;)

Standard organic plate, and exedy sports racing cover. Ran a similar setup on my E3, with 240kw's daily. Nice and easy to drive.

My organic died in 6 months. I'd go for a carbonic type clutch. Go a 5 puck or something for better drivability.

Have your tried the 2g accumulator tim? I looked into it and it was a bit pricey to purchase.

Thanks all

I have organised a Exedy Sports Tough Clutch Heavy Duty Button Kit (MBK-6429HDB) thanks to George. I will soon have a Quartermaster with flywheel for sale.

Cheers
Denis
