Removal of Manifold.

Help Support 4GTuner:

Yes its bullshit design, you have to loosen off and move all that shit in the way. Least thats what i did. some of the more experienced on here might know a short cut?

I have loosen 2 bolts, 1 on the left and one on the right hand side. But theres an extra bolt underneath the right had side bolt which i can't get to  so I gave up and posted on here for some help.

Also do I have to remove all 3 of these bolts to get to the ones inside the bracket attached to the block to take it off completely?

Thanks in advanced

You might not need to get to that bottom bolt.

What you can do now the powersteering pulley is loose is push it backwards (ie towards the firewall) just enough to remove the belt. Then you can pull the powersteering pump forward and hopefully have enough access to fit a 14mm socket with extension into that gap to undo the two bracket bolts.

If that doesn't work for you, then to get to the second bolt on the bottom of the powersteering pump on the righthand side you need to align the holes on the pulley. Did you notice how the pulley has holes in it? Well I think they are there for a reason, to undo the bolts :D

Once you have loosened the top bolt there should be enough freeplay on the belt for you to be able to turn the wheel by hand (by having the belt slip) to allign one of the holes with the bottom bolt. Then all you need to do is fit the 14mm socket with a small extension in the gap, connect up the wratched and undo the bolt.

Then slide the pump out of the way as there should be enough slack on the hoses to give you enough room to undo the bracket.

Then with the turbo removed you can access the lower manifold bolts from underneath as I don't think the GSR manifold has the gaps in it to access from the top like the EVO manifold does.

Hope that helps

yeh i had to loosen the bracket that holds the power steering pulley (is that what it is??) to get the extra clearance. there are 4 bolts from memory, using 17mm spanner.

ive never had to take off the ps stuff to remove that bolt.. i think i made a lil tool to help remove it.. anyways.. use an open end spanner.. be patient and you will get it :)

If you grind the corner off enough to clear the pump, you won't have to take your power steering off if you have to remove your manifold again.

Yeah it's a real prick of a design alright. I used to take the PS bracket out but I ended up bending a ring spanner especially for that bolt and could only move it in small fractions one way or the other. What shits you is when you've done it several times and forget to put the exhaust manifold on first before the PS bracket lol
