hey i was going to put my walbro fuel pump in today,

so i took the back seat out

undid all the nuts

removed the rubber hoses

and got to the one that is screwed on

how the heck do i get this off? ive loosened it but if i turn the end that is metal pipe it just bends the pipe, turn the other and and it just twists up the rubber fuel line, i thought i better ask on here before a spanner ends up through a window or something :)

You need to hold one side with a spanner while you crack the other side. Pipe spanner helps too.
you also need to undo the other end from up in front of the wheel arch which will stop the rubber hose twisting.

So will start here, because I don't feel like starting a new thread...

Have got mine out... Didn't undo up near the front wheel tho ... But now has come time to get her back in, and she just is not sitting right ... Can't get it to sit down in the tank .. I have tried angles of attack, and just can't find the right angle to enter in the tank, to make it sit... Anyone got a step by step .. With pretty pictures...

I get it in, all bolts line up, but I can push on 1 side and have it sit on the bolt, but it sits too high on the opposite end (side closer to passenger) .. I am guessing the float is not slotting into the correct place... So how do I make it... Grrr!!!

Sounds more like the pump is hitting bottom of tank. Did you move the bracket that holds pump to hanger at all dur8ng install?
Also what fuel pump is it?
Is it one of the new e85 walbro pumps?

Yeah, new Walbro .. $330 later...

Pump was the same size (a little thicker) than the previous Walbro .. But doesn't appear to be striking anything.. Other than that, it went straight into the existing bracket, with no modifications... Which is why I am thinking it has to be the float...

Not sure man ... Dropped it off at the mechanics, as there was a supplier local to him .. We weren't sure what we put in previously (10 years ago) so I left it with him to match up with the bloke..

Work has been too frantic for me to shop around ... I was actually stranded with the car, and had to get some mates to hire a trailer and pick me up on the day .. Luckily I wasn't too far from home when the pump died...

They have fucked up the install in the hanger 100%
Its not sitting in properly and therefore the bottom of the bracket is hitting the tank not allowing it to go all the way down.
Its not the float as there is plenty of room in there for that.

Haven't had time to source, and muck around with making it fit .. So had to outsource... :(

Have had a look at my before pics and it seems to look like it is assembled .. So will have another crack at it tonight, and see how I go ..

If you can find out if its a 255 or a 460 that might help? Reason I ask that is
The 460 requires a few little mods to fit correctly in the hanger or you will have the issues you are mentioning

Just checking so roll eyes if ya want but is the rubber gasket lined up right and did ya pulled the little black rubber nipples (3 i think) with pliers as ya putting it in?
If ya need a pic or measurements of a std one I have one that just got pulled out yesterday and is still on my bench

Not a stupid question .. But yeah, the rubber seal is on, in place, pushed down pressed up against the metal floor ... I had the gasket installed first, and was putting the pump over it ... So you may be on to something .. Didn't think it would be an issue to press down (Pump on to gasket) ..

I think it has 3 rubber spikes pointing up .. 1 facing where the bolted line is on, and the other 2 are opposite each other at the other end (closer to the passenger side) ... So will try this method of gasket first tonight..

It looks like the assembly unit is too big. Tried to fit the pump in without the space of the rubber seal.. Still no fit.. Have looked pretty closely at the tank, and looks like the metal bracket may be scraping the bottom of the tank..

So gonna have to look at a way to shorten it all. So may have to chop off some of the feeder pipe to the pump.. But will have to have more of a play tomoz.. Looks like I will have to pull apart the unit..

Well there you go.....what do I win ?

Sounds like its a 460 to me.
You need to shorten the top piece of rubber hose like you said as well as trim the bottom piece of rubber in half...that way it fits in nice and wont hit the bottom of tank. Been through all this myself...thats how I knew what was wrong from the beginning !
