removing fuel pump?

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

With how much grief I have experienced with this, the car was going to meet a box of matches dropped straight into the tank from the fuel pump access point..

here my install of the 400l only one modifications to cradle none to tank

what i did was cut off the cup section of the cradle flared the hose alittle and trimmed a small section from the factory original rubber foot as you can see a small section of hose joins the pump to the outlet.
and the cradle fits with the supplied fuel sock into the factory location perfectly the overall length of the cradle has not changed and is exactly the same length as it was factory

Had to cut a slot under the rear seat to be able to get the cradle assembly out when I changed to Evo VI FP. I undid the hardline under the car near the rear drivers side wheel, then lifted it all out with the hardline going through the slot.

Dont try to undo the hardline at the cradle. You'll break something and need to find a replacement cradle.

Yeah, I damaged the pipe leading to the pump ... Bent it a little... Was able to bend it back, but can still see the crease.. But yeah, my access panel has a few slots in it, so I can bend it up to get to the bolt and pull the pump out...
Well, problem sort of solved... Yes it was too big for the cradle.. I ended up cheating, and went for the easy way out.. Lobed a bit off the connector from the pump. The pipe leading to the pump was already shortened from the last fuel pump, so didn't want to take any more off that... Then just tightened the rubber fuel hose connection, and done..

Went to install .. Got it all in, then had a look at the fuel line connecting to the pump ... It was not a swivel connection (or whatever you want to call it).. So it means the pipe has been installed the other way round.. Swivel connection further down the line, and not accusable via access panel. Which would mean the last time the pump was changed, they put the fuel line on the wrong way ... Well, I guess the difficult way, not the wrong way ... I am guessing they didn't think it was going to be easy to change the pump through the access panel, and went the other route.

So, means I either have to:

Drain tank -> Remove tank -> remove line -> switch line around -> Reinstall
or

Cut metal feeder line of bracket (Bent anyway) -> Feed trough new metal line with right angle bend -> Put swivel connection on new pipe -> Install through access panel

I think I am going to take option 2, as I wasn't happy with how I bent the pipe, and this way I sort of fix that issue. Means it will be a hell of a lot easier to replace the pump as well if I find myself in this predicament.

Welding/soldering/brazing on the top plate of cradle can be detrimental to the plastic bung. Id solder it. But keep that plastic cool.

so im told.
Ummm .... Yeah, actually that is a good point... Cheers... :)

If your going to weld anything...strip it out. Everything that attaches to the cradle is removeable. I welded a -6 fitting on mine with no issues..so dunno wtf Jacks on about??
