i finally broke my first axel on wed.

what is the easiest way of swapping out a snapped axel?
lowering the rear diff to get the angle easy enough to fit the new one in or pulling the trailing arm off?
bearing in mind im prob going to have to do this at the drags on a regular basis i think from now on
ive got no fuel tank or boot floor so lots of head room under the back to work in.

cheers
Chris.

take the rear section of the exhaust off..
put a nice heavy jack under the dif
lower the dif (3 bolts) 17mm ones.. u will need an extra long ring or open spanner for this
remove one rear lower control arm (2 bolts again) 17mm might need to use a hammer and some RP7 or other lubricant to get it to move abit.
remove the strut (2 bolts) 14mm in the boot, make sure you use a impact socket and not a normal groved 14mm. recommend a 1/2 ratchet cos u cant really get the force with a 3/4'.
remove the wheel
remove the split pin holding the 32mm nut in
with a rattle gun or with a mate standing on the breaks
use a breaker bar 32mm to crack the nut holding the cv joint to the hub
lower the jack for the dif to drop

should all come out fairly easy..

hope it was easy to follow.

:D I have done that about 25 times

Welcome to my world JSTYLE :p

Breakages are now a thing of the past for me(fingers crossed)

So rob what happening with the front end?

I'm guessing you have a PPG G/box in there but what do you use for the transfer drive?

That would have to be upgraded also? I dont think the little g/box output shaft would handle the power you are producing, care to tell your secrets?

or have you just upgraded to a larger spline setup in the tf/case.

Yup im running a shep racing transfer case and its larger in the spline, the gearbox output to the transfer is still standard

Hey Rob, what ratio are you running? 3.909?

Did you find a supra rear end with the same ratio?

I'm looking at a hilux rear end for my CYBORG, the only problem is the matching ratios for the dogbox- I really wanted to run 3.545, but there arent any rear diff matches for it

do the ppg boxes replace that output shaft in the g/box or is it the std one? I've heard thats what gets stripped.

So what is the main part/s that brake in these boxes?

Just to be rude ... what did the shep transfer case cost you? (OK what would it cost a normal bloke)

I'm probably never going to get over 400hp atw

off subject : I heard Nic was selling the lancer? true? new project or just sick of the breakages?

Troy

PAR boxes use Evo 8 output shafts these days (apparently they're far bigger, though I haven't compared them myself) .. not sure if PPG do the same.

The output shaft is bigger in the ppg box.The main part that breaks is 2nd gear but thats if you make over 700 at the wheels and after over 200 passes I finaly broke one late last year
The transfer case cost me $4500 including a billett yolke. The transfer case was brand new from mitsu too :D
Nick was thinking of selling it but has now decided too keep it.

Im running the 3.909 rear end ratio, but im not too sure if you can get a 3.5 supre rear ratio :?:
