Hey guys, need some help
My manifold to turbo gasket blew a week or so ago, just got a replacement in now, I wanna try and change it myself.

What should I be careful of when I'm doing it?

Or better yet, does anyone have a step by step guide?

lol, thanks :)

those gaskets always blow,
make sure the next one is a metal one from mitsu

to install, just undo those 4 bolts (i removed the stud and placed a bolt to make stuff like this easy for you, otherwise you would have to have seperated the turbo and manifold completely..)

anyway, unbolt the 4 bolts on top of the manifold, the turbo should drop a tiny bit... then pull the old gasket out.. and then slide in the new gasket and put bolts back in

sounds easy but you'll have some problems with the angle of the bolt entering the hole due to the weight of the turbo pulling it down... you'll probably need to pull the turbo up real hand while trying to screw a bolt into the exhaust housing while balancing the gasket (can get frustrating)

good luck mate!

thanks baz
i'll give it a go tonight

will the whole weight of the turbo be supported? or do i have to be careful of the oil lines getting bent?

The turbo will sit there just fine :)

If this is the first time you have had the turbo unbolted from the manifold watch out for the fire-ring that Mitsubishi has between the manifold and turbo, it's a sod to get out!

hmm
turns out the gasket was fine
it was just the bolts holding the turbo on had backed out

i tightened them up and took it for a test drive
sounds fine, boosts fine

i'll replace the gasket when i do the dump pipe as well, just incase

good stuff...
to tighten it up nicely.. tighten it up cold, go for a spin and heat everything up.. then tighten it up again..

plus no fire ring also

plus u should port the turbo when the dump pipe is made =)
