Hey Guys,

For those that have done this, how did you put the new one back on..

Did you completely weld it back in to place or making it as a removable panel?

I'm currently doing it on my gsr which will be setup for track work.

Cheers

My panel beater welded the full EVO support panel into my Coupe. When I upgraded turbos to the GTX3076R I needed to have a custom radiator made up and move it forward and have it actually sit inside the support panel instead of behind it.

To do this, I cut the top portion of the support panel away from just inside the two welded nuts for the standard radiator mounts and had a mate make me up a C-section brace out of 1.6mm alloy to replace this portion of the panel.

Works a treat as now I can remove everything from in front of the engine if I need to access the turbo, lines, manifold etc.

That is nice ^

When mine was replaced I used a 10mm hole saw (ebay) to drill all the spot welds. Then grind down the spot weld flush. My replacement panel was drilled off another car (woolies) so when it was put on only needed to fill drill holes with the mig.
The panel beater may have used silicon bronze. I would have done it but car had to be racked straight anyway.

the panel is already off, drilled out most of the welds so i can weld them no worries, but some i used a spot weld bit so i dont have holes in some places

as ill be getting a new standard lancer panel

Maybe not clear..
Drill old rad support off. It leaves the spot weld on the car. Grind them off flush. The new panel will have the spots in the same place. Tek screw the panel temporarily and weld the new on by filling the spot weld holes. Fill the tek screw holes with weld.

New panel. Drill the holes and mig it to the car.

i dont think i wanna go to that extreme dougmo.. lol but it does look like an interest setup.

but ive got a few ideas now oh what i could do cheers guys.. but keep them coming :D

Looks mint Shayne. But will your bonnet now be closed with bonnet pins?

Yep, bonnet is now held closed with a pair of Aerocatch bonnet pins (see attached image):

Is that mod legal?

Strictly speaking - No, it's not legal as you're not permitted to modify any part of the structure of the vehicle that will influence its crash performance. But as the car is no longer road registered and only driven on the race track it didn't really matter.
