resonators

i'm thinking about changing my cat and catback exhaust so it's quieter then it is and was wondering will i lose noticeable power in putting a resonator or two to quiet down my exhaust?

Thats a big fat NO. I have a 12" long stright thru resonator on my vr4 which is flanged and I also have a straight piece of pipe the same length which is also flanged so I can remove the resonator for racing purposes and my bum dyno cannot tell any difference in power, nor can my stop watch.

how much quiter do you want go with your exhaust? and that SS muffler you have now issnt a bad note nor is it that loud......... and i believe your running 2.5" exhaust?

it's quiet on idle jay, but once i open her up it get's pretty loud..

i might go do the db test first and see how loud it really is..

My pea shooter muffler like a posted in the other thread is a commodore SS mid section muffler. I dont have any other mufflers in my system, and with that on the end, it is only 86db.

I got a massivly long 3" resinator and its pretty quiet

even my neibours said its pretty quiet now

i've got two resonators and a cat in my car, no muffler (as such) and its reasonably quiet, I haven't had any attention over it (touch wood)

one resonator is about 18 inches long and the other is about 12, both are 3 inches straight through.

just add one big one and it should quieten you down quite a bit, that way you shouldn't get as much attention from the EPA and not have to dick around when/if you get called up for a noise test.

i have a 3' turbo back exhaust system with a 12' resonator and a magnaflow 3' mmuffler.. tested it at 87db at 4500rpm.

I was nabed for noise, so i got a complete new zorst made up (CAT back at this stage)

3" Metal Cat, 2x12" resonators, and a 3"-2x2.5" magnaflow muffler, have not had a noise test done with this setup, so not sure on sound level, but the muffler wouldn't be helping (sounds ALOT nicer now but)

This is on my car. Part for part except the final muffler is 3in, 3out dumper rotary style. My car's quiet. Very.
