Reversing lamps

Just noticed the other day - my reverse lamps don't work. There's globes and the wires are connected in the back.

So, my question is this : where is the reversing lamp switch supposed to be? I removed the shifter boot, and I can't see a switch there, and also I don't see a way they could mount one near the shifter forks under the bonnet.

Most cars have a switch in/on the gearbox (not sure if this is true of the VR4)

yep, on the gearbox mate

there is an electrical plug in the box, make sure that its plugged in.
located on the top of the box.

You will find it more or less under the airbox on the gearbox if that helps!

Yep, I found it alright. Anyway, how can I check if it functions? I assume if I pull the plug off and connect the two terminals together it should make the lights light up?

If the switch is buggered, is it possible to remove it from the gearbox? I couldn't really see any way to do it, can you just dig it out with a flat bladed screwdriver?

You need to use an open ended spanner to get it out bud.
