hey guys.

quick question. i have just installed my new Exedy heavy duty clutch and fidanza lightened flywheel and i am just wondering if theres anything i have to do/not to do when i run the new clutch in..

from what i have gathered, you just have to drive the car off boost and pretty normally for approx 600 kays? is there anything else i have to do?

thanks in advance ppl!

kaya.

none of this pussy shit, drive it hard from day one, more chance of it breaking after time then the first time

I've seen clutches ask for 200-500km break in.
The one i bought asked for 1000km!

I asked the seller and what i was told was drive it normally (be good to it), just no launches and turn the boost down.

The idea is that the friction surface on the disk can bed into the flywheel properly.

With my particular clutch, i did notice a differnce after about 500-700 kms where the feel of the clutch changed as it bedded in and i just readjusted it a tiny bit and its been all sweet:)

If the manufactuer asks for a run in period i'd do it!

I had a brand new 3-puk clutch installed- the next day I took it to the track and ran a 12.0@ 113 and never had an issue with it, even after I sold the car :)

I did bed it in tho- gave it a few hard mini launches (kinda hard to explain)

Like how you bed in brakes kinda

WEll i guess a metalic puck clutch might be differnt to mine.

I had a kevlar friction surface on my disk not organic or metalic mix.

The reason mine needed such a long run in (1000kms of "normal driving") was as it was like furry kevlar, if it slipped massivly and overheated before it bedded in it'd glaze over.

What you saying clutz makes sense for a puck i guess. Still you not scarred are you lol. 3 run in launches then a 12.0 run!

The more scared you are, the more shit will break on you. Its murphys law I guess :)

Organics might be different, although speaking from experience, I had an organic clutch in my old Libero GT and the night we put it in, I gave it boost a few times (was only 10psi mind you) and it held sweet, just didnt launch or slap it.

Also, its important that you get the flywheel machined every time you replace the clutch, along with the steps in the flywheel too......

haha you sound like someone else i know. try break it to get rid of any weaknesses.
What your saying about a puck would make sense, as they grab the flywheel more they my need a harder bedding in more simular to brake pads. Compared to a full face organic or kevlar disk.

Does exedy say anything about running them in???

From their site;
Do EXEDY clutches require a break in period?

We recommend breaking in the clutch for 150-200 miles with mild engagement such as stop and go city driving prior to racing or spirited driving. EXEDY race discs usually only require a few hard slips to lap in the surfaces prior to normal driving or racing. Do not overheat the clutch during the break in period.

Read this after I installed my most recent clutch. Just drove normally like everyone else, no issue [yet].

mines an organic HD with the fidanza fly

so i guess i'll just chuck her around the city for a while... once i get it registered.. lol

cheers guys..
