Just thought I would post up and let everyone know my initial thoughts of my new gearbox rebuild.
Rockabilly was kind enough to do all the work and give the tired box a new life with some special treatment, and here are my thoughts.
To put it simply, I LOVE the response, the grab and the fact it has a new lease on life.
To extend on it, here is why.
We upgraded the Shift Kit to a TL-175 Shift kit from the KM-175 I was running. The bonus of this is a slightly harder grab. We also did a rotation on a valve body pressure control bolt to increase oil pressure on shift. Big bonus for saving our clutches
New Clutches went in (high performance)
New Main bearing and torque converter strengthened to withstand any abuse I can throw its way (Also set to a slightly higher stall)
Strengthened Second Gear band (To save the shift kit killing the band)
The drive.
1st to 2nd - Major decrease in delay. Under Full line pressure, it's really snappy! Under mid, it's 100x better than it was, and under low pressure, it's great!
2nd to 3rd - Seriously quick, never seen such a snappy change! It's fantastic
3rd to 4th - Again much better than it was, a great improvement
I gotta say, if someone needs to upgrade their auto gearbox, talk to Rockabilly first. His knowledge and help with this hasn't gone un-appreciated. It's good to meet another fellow RVR owner and automotive nut with the same passion and drive for our cars!
Gotta say thanks to VR401 too, he's always been a great help too
The gearbox prior to the build was tired and it's obvious that our boxes can handle alot, but need care taken to help them have a better life span
I look forward to getting my car to the 1/4 mile eventually!
Cheers
