Hi all, I have just removed the rear muffler (located behind the rear diff) off of my hsg as up here in the NT we have to have yearly inspections and this rvr has been quite loud due to being fitted with this very large wanky JASMA muffler. Upon removing the muffler, rust was evident all around the ass end of the muffler, but the exhaust pipe section going from the three bolt flange, over the drive shaft, and to the muffler appeared to be almost new. When I looked inside the muffler the exhaust pipe appeared to be welded straight through the muffler without any perforations. eg. the muffler case appeared to be there for looks and did not do jack shit!

When i started the hsg with the rear muffler off, it sounded almost the same as when the JASMA muffler was on, so in reality, the muffler was doing very little.

Can anyone suggest what type of muffler I could use to replace the JASMA?
I have not measured the pipe size but it is smaller than 3 inch (possibly standard) and I am trying to quieten the vehicle down to remove the drone, and hence, not upset my neighbours.

Alternatively, does anyone have a spare rear box in good condition laying around that they want to get rid of?

If you going cheap, get a standard muffler from a car with more power. The local muffler shop will have good second hand xr6 and v8 commodore ones out for scrap.
even if you not cheap, this will probably do you. But you need a full size muffler not a cannon to make them quieter.
And generally a straight through muffler will be louder than a not straight through.

What size is your exhaust??

Jasma is the "Japanese Automotive Sport Muffler Association" in Japan which conforms to strict engine noise standards. Obviously this muffler has been modified to remove the baffles. Something I would personally do myself :p

If you want to quieten the car down then you should do it once and do it properly- go see your local exhaust shop or a shop that comes recommended and see what they have on offer. Dual 3" outlets look better in my opinion!

Thanks guys. The JASMA plate has a number 017 followed by 96 000083. The muffler is 450mm long, has a 60mm o.d inlet, and 90mm o.d outlet, not including the larger shroud. Not sure if the Kakimoto Racing sticker was stuck on later for looks.

Yes quite possibly modified straight through, and yes, will stay away from a cannon.

Is only a "bush basher" or spare car so will look for a large second hand muffler as cant justify a new one! :w00t:
Have pics but cant find how to attach them in a reply!! cheers.
