Rvr towing capacity?

Help Support 4GTuner:

I dont know official figures, but id bank that its not enough to tow the smallest car on the lightest car trailer. Maybe a jetski or a small boat but shes only a 2l 4 banger.

I'm quite interested in this topic. Here in the Netherlands we have to get our towing weights registered on the registration papers of the car.
Rigt now I have 0 kg braked and unbraked.

However I have towed a trailer of which I think was about 1800 kg up the steep hills in the belgium ardennes without any problem.

Official weights would make it much easier and cheaper to get my towing weights registered. So I can legally tow my trailers.
Without official numbers I probably need to get it tested on a test track. Hope to get around 1800 kg or 2000 kg for a braked trailer.

The problem is its a 2.0l 4cyl pulling a fairly heavy car as it is. Turbo doesnt help off boost, and itd be silly to be on boost 100% for a trip towing a trailer. The car could physically do it, but it wouldnt be safe nor legal in Australia, they just dont have enough usable torque at suitable RPM for anything heavy

Oh wow. That's some serious weight. See with the diff and gearbox ratios the HSG has at 100km/h we're up at 3500rpm which as you know allows for basically full boost anyway. So the usable torque would be there. Obviously it would strain the engine and drivetrain much more than a 6l V8 at 1600rpm.

The fact that it is a heavier car than the evos would mean it'd still be safe enough to tow more than 1000kg braked surely...

I would definitely be checking with relevant specialists and getting an accurate figure tbh
