Hey All,
we had the first round of the SA Rally championship last weekend near Murray Bridge, the Tarawatta Stages. We were very excited heading into the event, however 2 days before the event i got the Flu pretty bad, so we ended up having a prety crappy recce.
The event started Sat morning, & ofcouse the rain came! Stage 1 & 2 were pretty average, with heaps of rain and fog + and the car setup for the dry the times were somewhat average. After SS 2 we had the first service, which gave us a chance to put some wet weather cuts in the tyres, and ajust the setup a little to give some more grip in the very slippery conditions. The changes worked perfectly, we made nearly 30 secs up on SS3 alone. SS4 was a short stage, but we had got back on the pace and started making up a few spots.
Unfortunaly things didnt go so well on 5. Near the start of the stage i carried a bit to much speed through a left hander over a crest, got a little off line and slid off he side of the road into a big rock which hit right uner my door, the force of the impact launched the car in the air, and into a fence, instant DNF with bent suspension arms front & rear & my seat breaking, aswell as bending the roll cage.
Sarah & I are both okay, however we have a bit of a job ahead of us now.
