Guys, thought I would share the good news ! The Brown/Dale Mitsubishi VR4 has won the SARC Round 1 on the week end. Held in the SE of SA in the area of Millicent, Gary Brown and Mike Dale brought home the Silverware from the Rallye Wattle Range. While not dominating as in the previous win in Kuipto Forest last November, it was still an emphatic performance in an event with 30 competitors. Our lower geared VR4 struggled in top end speed against 6 speed WRXs in mostly fast shire roads and station tracks. We were tapped at 180 km/h, while the subarus reported speeds in excess of 200 km/h.
Of note, we managed to hold off young ARC hot shots in their strong WRXs... well mostly strong ! Dan Day in his MY06 STI rolled while trying to stay with us, and James Rodda in another WRX destroyed his dog box, but managed to limp home in 2nd place. James was 2 sec behind us going into the last group of 3 stages. That made for a fairly tense finish to the event, but the old forest tractor come up with the goods !
