This is the obd port now for some reason my 2 obd2 scaners wont pick up the ecu it has power however? Just preparing for the tuning software im yet to do the jumper mod and socket the ecu other than that i believe im set is there any one that can shed some light to make my obd port work for the tuning software?

They do have on board diagnostic but its not obd2 its sorta obd1.5

They use the mutii protocol and only certain scan tools will read them

You don't have to go to a later ecu etc. I've encountered this issue a few times, and I wire in my own separate 12 pin OBD1 plug directly to the ECU loom plug . Pragmatic solution, but problem solved !!

mine was weird you could scan it and get all sorts of info but you had to plug into both the obd1 style plug and the obd2 connector (the car had both) for it to work still couldn't flash tune the ecu though without mods to the ecu itself.

Easiest solution..............spend $165 + post and I'll send you a machined pin socketed RVR ECU. These are identical to an evo 3 but have OBD2 comm circuitry rather than the OBD 1 in the E3 ECU you currently have. You put it in, connect the cable, work out what COM port your laptop wants to use (COM3 or COM5), then away you go.

You are bashing your head against a wall trying to make OBD 2 wiring in your car work with OBD 1. Sure, you can do it.......................but one crappy solder or a rub through on one of the wires will make you want to climb a high wall, then jump off it into a pool filled barbed wire, rusty razor blades, tabasco sauce and Wednesday morning's surgical waste from a brothel who has a two for Tuesday special.

Not sure if there is an issue here or not: I may have missed something but in my CC GSR once the ECU was chipped with ecmlink I just used their supplied cable to connect the ECU (via the socket as shown in the original post) to my laptop, which has the ecmlink software loaded onto it. You can get this from their website, plus a few maps as well if you get stuck (I loaded their EVO1-3 map to get myself running and am using it until I can get a dyno tune $$$).

Laptop connects to the ECU every time; I don't know if you can use an OBD 1 or 2 scanner once you have chipped with ecmlink, but you should be ok using the ecmlink supplied hardware and software.

Apologies if I have misunderstood!
